Yes, block paving is concrete so don't pour any salt on it. All you can do is sweep or torch it .

At the end of the growing season I buy a couple of split bags of lawn fertiliser at knocked down prices and use that for the driveway.

Sand is best kept for the "Oh shyte, I'm stuck" moment, then use liberally.
