I do need to give them another coat. I did one coat of masonry paint last autumn but they were a pig to do.
Suplimentary coats do get easier - and it's worth it.

They take a lot of paint, you almost have to plaster it on! I think some use a spray to paint it on which would be quicker and easier.

Just get a large tub of trade white emulsion and a fluffy roller and you should be quicker, especially since it's already hade one coat.

After I'd wasted almost a week of my life painting my garage a painter told the trick is to apply a first coat with the paint watered down 50/50, second coat 75/25, then a final coat at 100%. The watered down paint goes on a lot easier and by the time you get to the 3rd coat the walls are sealed so it's less like trying to paint a sponge with custard.

I’m also looking to tile my existing garage and new garage extension totalling about 52sqm (std double and double).
Still not decided on wether to go for 300x300 or 600x600mm tile.
Liked the dotti tiles, where is the best place to order from?
Also like the looks of 600mm porcelain tiles, heard that I’d need a de coupling matting and or expansion joint. Any tilers lurking could give some advice on this.

I got mine from direct tile warehouse in wales. Cheapest price by a long way. Happy with them. Its the second garage ive had the dotti floor tiles in!

Hey guys,

I’ve made the decision this week to crack on getting some
Plastic tiles down after my new doors are being fitted on Wednesday.

Where’s everyone these days in terms of companies that are worth getting some samples from. Also what colours do people go for? Grey? Does black just show all the dust and dirt?

Thanks

Ive got Dyno Tile, been down over 10 years, really pleased with it. Black n grey chequer board effect, but in hindsight I would just go grey. The black looks dusty within a week.

I am looking to renovate a new-to-me 6m x 7m double garage. It was originally built around 2015 and is integral to the house.

It's got electric up & over doors and the roof / walls are finished in plaster (I think!). Lighting is one or two pendants with bog standard bulbs. Floor is bare concrete.

I've been through the thread and got a few quotes and samples. Looks like I'll be going for a light & dark grey combo of 7mm thick, 50cm square tiles.

So the questions!

1) Is 7mm thick (Rtek or Mototile most likely) enough for basic car work? Jacking a car up, axel stands etc? May want to leave a car on stands for a while if that matters

2) Do I need to worry about staining or marks from tyres? I'm not overly precious but if it's something to watch for I can chuck a few spares down.

3) Should I lay straight on to bare concrete or is it best to add an underlay or epoxy seal as a base?

4) I want to crack on with the floor to get the car in there - but am I better to sort out the lighting and paint the walls etc first? A quick lick of paint is probably fine, but garage lighting looks like another rabbit hole to go down!

I bought rubber tiles from b&q but as soon as I turn the wheel on them they distort badly. Some have remained sunken after a week of parking. I’m looking into plastic too now.

Mine is mostly old carpet, a lot easer on the knees, bit of insulation. Stuff you put on the floor doesn't get scratched. Absorbs any spills before they get trod into the house. One area is painted with white gloss, for easy cleaning. I don't have grubby old cars in there.

Cheap carpet tiles - I have them all around the cars and garage but not underneath the cars wheels or within the wheelbase when it’s parked (the tiles extend into/under the overhangs of the cars).

The tiles were proper cheap being seconds - they don’t crush and I have plenty of spares should a spill/accident/tear occur.

They dry out quick if rain water gets in on the car and can quickly be vacuumed for an immaculate show garage type look.

I bought hard plastic puppy cage liners (approx 120cm x 70cm) as drip trays for any oily bits and an old stain sits on charge for a easy clean up.

I use those trays you get in garden centres designed for grow-bags.

They will be fine in my experience with dynotile

Nope, not noticed any marks from tyres

3) Should I lay straight on to bare concrete or is it best to add an underlay or epoxy seal as a base?

I would use some of the very thin foam underlay thats recommended by some tile suppliers, stops the tap-tap sound as you walk around and floor feels a little warmer

4) I want to crack on with the floor to get the car in there - but am I better to sort out the lighting and paint the walls etc first? A quick lick of paint is probably fine, but garage lighting looks like another rabbit hole to go down!
I would at least paint first, to save getting any on your new floor

I didn’t paint mine. That’s why I used the PVC tiles. The garage was emptied, tiled and refilled all in the same day. It was the drying time I was not wanting as all the garage stuff would have to be kept outside.

I think (?) they are saying to paint walls / ceiling first (not the floor) if I am interpreting this correctly

That is along the lines I was thinking to avoid drips etc. Paint first, floor then revisit lighting once I know what I want.

Ah ok, I should have read the op properly. lol. I have known people to paint the floor before fitting the tiles. Never really understood the point.

Yes I painted the walls before fitting mine.

What are the current thoughts on garage flooring? In my old house I had Ecotile flooring and was really happy with it, but since originally purchasing (2014ish?) there is more choice in the market.

As I was happy with the ecotile I'm looking for similar (7mm textured surface). I don't want coin / checker, and I'm not bothered about visible joins as I'll be going for a single colour - my previous was black, but likely to go for a grey (or other) colour this time as black showed every speck of dirt. I need around 30sqm

From searches I have found the following do a smooth finish tile.

Versa-Tile - No Prices on their website

Garage Tile Shop - £28 sq/m

Garage Floors Direct - £27sq/m

Garage Pride - £34 - £38 sq/m depending on tile

Garage Floor Tile Company - £28.50 sq/m

Ecotile - No prices on website, but I think they are also the Garage Floor Tile Company

RTek - No prices on website

Does anyone have any comments (good or bad) about any of the tiles above, or does anyone have any other suggestions for companies I might have missed?
