My parents have a chair, and two sofas (non reclining). The chair is almost 25 years old, and looks in very good shape - it had the hard wearing leather option.
The two seaters are different ages, the first is probably 20 years old and looks like new, apart from the wood aging where your hand goes (in a nice way). That's had new foam cushions once I think. The other is maybe 15 years old and looks brand new - no signs of aging at all, but then it dosen't get hard usage every day.

If you can afford the outlay, and pick a timeless style they will be the only sofa you buy!

Be interested to know how much they would be to re-cover as I'm sure I'll inherit them one day!
If you want I can find out off my folks as they have just last year had the 2 chairs and stool done, apparently the last colour (red) didn't suit the room anymore so they redid them... don't know if it was an official recover or a local expert, but who ever did it did a fantastic job.
Yes Please!
Ballpark figure would be good if they can't remember, My mum is often talking about replacing the one I like - not sure blue leather is my thing though (it does look better than it sounds though)
£700-800 for antique effect brown/mushroom leather, with a bit of padding replaced in one chair.

Thats for 2 chairs and the foot stool, so I guess work on £300-£350 a chair and £100-200 per foot stool.

Local leather restorer as stressless do not have a service like that themselves according to the old dear.
Perfect, thanks - I thought they did have a service to do this but maybe they've stopped it. Sounds like it'll be around 20-30% of the cost which is pretty decent then

I'm on my second, agree with what has been said, both mine had the G&T table, don't get one without it. The other half has commander the old one, when the cat isn't sat in it, that is. They are expensive, but if the house was on fire, I'd get them out (after the other half and the pets, of course).

An old thread but one of the many that made me suggest one to my father, he ordered one with testing it.

He hated it and gave it me - Stressless, Consul recliner with footstool.

It's awful - it raises your knees above your hips, I thought maybe it grows on you but no, I now have back, butt, hip and lower leg ache after sitting in it for an hour, it is without doubt the most uncomfortable chair I've ever sat in.

Try one in store (for some time) before buying - they don't suit everyone.

We had a three seater sofa, single seat recliner and a fixed low back chair. Spent months on deciding on the purchase and trying out in showrooms. Within a couple of months after delivery we realised what a huge mistake we had made, the most uncomfortable lounge suite we had ever had the misfortune to waste thousands of pounds purchasing. Stuck with it for a couple of years or so and then virtually gave it away to be rid of them.
They were extremely well made and high quality though, just bloody uncomfortable!!

We have four Stressless chairs in our garden room and two in the sitting room.

We find them very comfortable

Some friends have a two seater settee....it's awful

Just my opinion

For those that find that the Stressless chair and/or footstool is the wrong height, perhaps one of the following may help:

Stressless Elevator Kit For Signature Base Chair & Footstool
OR
Stressless Elevator Ring

Agree
The in laws have two chairs (comfortable) and a two seater settee which I find OK although you struggle to set the back right, it throws you off but my wife hates it when we go.

We replaced our Ikea two-seater sofa (with shot springs after 3 years) with a pair of recliners and stools in the January sales.

Absolutely frigging love 'em.

Seems they are a bit Marmite as per above posts, but both my wife and I agree they are way more comfortable than any of the previous 3 sofas we have had over past 20 years.

Spot on, there is nothing wrong with ‘Stressless’ as such, it’s just that we are all different shapes and sizes.

Well five years after starting this thread and I still don't own one. But I am going to go and look at them at a local branch of HSL tomorrow.
They have an offer running for a Stressless Opal with footstool in Bastick leather from £999, though I'm guessing I will need the large size at £1,099. The Signature base looks good as well. I like the cream colour below, but not sure how practical that will be?
(Stressless themselves also have a 20% discount offer)

I love mine - it's only 6 years old so can't comment on quality, but it still looks like new, it's the chair everyone makes for when they come in.

I tried several in the store and ended up choosing the smallest, I think each range comes in 3 sizes, and some are really wide.
I'm a short fat bloke.
And 5 years later, the chair is now over 10 years old and doesn't have any defects. It's still the one everyone takes if possible. Having had a couple of knee replacements, I have been through periods of landing quite heavily into it.

Do try before you buy as I've had some quite large people say that it's very comfortable - the large is LARGE!

Im pleased you are still happy with your chair Paul. What colour leather is yours and does it get dirty or discolour easily? I like the cream colour but I just don't think it will be practical in our house. I might consider buying some good quality leather feed if I do buy a Stressless chair.

We've got a pair of Stressless recliners in cream with extendable headrests plus the footstools.

My wife had them from her previous marriage along with a 3 seater sofa that we subsequently sold to friends

I think they are the large size. I didn't find them comfortable at first and they were relegated to a bedroom for a few years but we sold our house last year, sold the other furniture and are using the recliners in our rented place until our new home is ready some time this year and I've found them much more comfortable this time.

They are at least 20 years old and getting a little dirty and the leather is a little stretched and worn in places

I'll see whether to get a new pair in a different colour, get them recovered or sell them on as they do seem to fetch good money second hand.

After years of pondering and sucking through my teeth at the price, today I went to look at them and ordered one.
HSL currently have an offer running where they are selling some models at reduced price, even cheaper than the current Stressless 20% offer.

I've ordered..
Stressless Opal
Large size
Oak Classic base
Batick cream leather
With footstool
£1,099
Normally a 48hr delivery, but is currently 2 weeks due to Covid

Also ordered the computer table to go with it..

I've had Stressless stuff for the last 15 years.

The recliner chairs are very comfortable for reading, etc. They do a laptop stand so you can work on it aswell, which is neat.

I had a reclining 3 and 2 seater sofa, which the OH didn't like as she could lie across it so we got non-reclining Stressless. It's not great. We'll probably get a recliner for Study/conservatory next and go with a different style for the lounge.

Whatever you get, it is well made though and comes with 10 year guarantee (at least they always used to)

I’ve ordered the laptop table, though it wasn’t cheap. I haven’t tried their sofas but they do seem to have their lovers and haters.
