I do like the Honda, bought and sold a fair few since 2004, currently extending/constructing the rear of the garage for a 30m2 steel clad building to work on ride on projects.
Always liked the look of the bigger Hondas. Are you in the UK? The 5518 must be pretty rare, was it any good and how much would I need to spend to get one?!
I'm in Shropshire, the 5518 is fabulous! has the same engine as the 4518 but the 4518 is just a mower where as the 5518 is a 4x4 with a PTO at the back for attachments, it has 8 speeds forward and 4 speeds reverse transmission, also has a big 55" cutting deck, (but no colection option, so mulcher only, you could pick one up for about £1500 that needs TLC like I did or a nice example for around 2.5/3k (pre covid price) They are not hydrostatic like the 4518, I think Honda ended production of 5518 as Hydrostatic came in.

Coming back to this (hopefully...) Which model is it? And what do you use it on? Just lawn or rougher stuff as well?

I think I've decided to upgrade but trying to work out whether I need a Climber. My garden is a bit over 3/4 acre and square but rises 40ft over that area.
Quick, optimistic bump...

I'm struggling to come to a decision. The hydrostatic box in my 21-y-o Countax is failing and it doesn't look like there's a service kit or replacement available. I mainly use it with a high grass mulch deck.

It struggles to get to a few places in the garden and will only make it with a good run up and some bouncing, and even then I'm concerned it'll fall over! The Grillo MD18 looks great, nice and low and has a difflock but the £5500 price tag and scarcity of dealers makes me nervous.

So I'm after suggestions. It doesn't need to be massively wide - 36" is fine currently - but ability to deal with hills and lumps, plus long grass and occasionally bracken is a must.

I just picked up a second hand Ransomes 2130 Highway to go alongside the John Deere Z645 Zero Turn mower. I've had a couple in the past but it's been a few years since the last one.

I quite enjoy cutting the grass and the John Deere is fairly rapid and has a proper mulching deck fitted but I'm sure there will be days when I'll appreciate the joys of double the cutting width.

Operation, tart up the £40 mower as cheaply as possible and hopefully extend the life of the deck

What we started with

All taken apart

£8 on Amazon for some wire brush drill attachments

£20 on some primer and paint and totally stole Bills idea for the stickers

Still in at under £100 and it'll hopefully last a bit longer now

thumbup They fit better on simpler curves, but you missed the line of bullet holes!

Great thread. I've never considered putting V-power or Redex through my lawnmower, or detailing it before!
