Ok, thanks guys. Amusing watching it try to mow the lawn in the snow this morning. It did ok but stopped every so often so I switched it off and put it back on its base for now.

The EasiLife has a frost sensor you can turn on so it won’t go out if the temp is less than 5C.

Hi, any tips on mower selection and wire placement for this yard setup?
It's around 300m2 of grass and pretty level.
I was thinking of Husqvarna 305 as it has 3 remote starts but am a bit confused of where to put base and guide wire :/

So I’ve done the firmware update and Willy actually seems quite a bit happier. He’s been mowing every day this weekend without issue.
Quick update, 2 weeks later and Willy has been happy as Larry. He’s been out mowing every day without fail and I haven’t had to ‘interfere’ with him once!

Touch wood, must find some wood, bet I’ve gone and bloody done it now!

Sorry for the ambiguity, marked grass with green.
Red are buildings or raised garden beds, grey is pavement level with grass.

That depends on what the grey material is. If it’s tarmac or similar then most mowers have a corridor function where they can travel across a narrow passage, as long as you can get the guide wire down.

Otherwise if you’re looking at moving it between sections then I think it probably doesn’t matter too much which one you choose.

Looking at the specs for the Flymo easilife 200, 350 and 500, the only difference is mowing area. The weight is exactly the same so I think it is the same hardware, same batteries etc. It's just the software that allows you to specify a larger lawn area. I wonder if someone could hack the software update to allow a 200 model to mow a larger area and have a busier mowing schedule.

Correct, the only difference is the operating time allowed. The 200 is allowed to operate for up to 6 hours in 24, I think the 350 is 9 hours and the 500 is 12 hours. The only other difference is the bigger one comes with more guide wire.

Darn it.....after a solid couple of years, our Landroid M is grumbling about being 'outside operating area'.
Suggests to me there is a break in the cable somewhere...but there is zero evidence of any animal action around the perimeter wire.
Maybe need to dig around the base station a bit....which itself is tricky since I built a 'garage' for him!

Also optimistically says "press '0' to reset" - naturally, pressing 0 is doing nothing.

  • sigh*
Check the perimeter wire connections at the charging station first.

It's good practice to cut the wire back a couple of cm every year anyway to ensure that you have a good connection.

If that doesn't help then connect up around 20m of wire in a circle and put the mower inside the new wire.

If he's happy then you know that you have a problem with the old wire somewhere.

Reconnect the old wire to the charging station and go round the edge of the lawn with an AM radio.

You should be able to detect any break fairly easily.
Thanks - sounds similar to the steps at https://support.worx-europe.com/wire-missing-troub... (which I was reading just minutes ago!)

Not sure I have an AM radio....this one could run'n'run (this is a home we let out, we are only visiting for a few days to get ready for the season!!)

Thanks for the reply!
Yeah, the unit is fine with a sample of cable....so there is a break somewhere.
Will have to investigate AM radios.
We were thinking of extending the run. Maybe I need to rip it all up and lay a longer wire. Unfortunately no time on this visit....gonna have to get the human gardener mowing again: Bah frown
Okay, so on the "you should be able to detect any break fairly easily".....really?
The radio happily buzzed near the unit (both ends), but was hard to figure out from that point onwards (bearing in mind I 'buried' the cable 1-2cm below the surface!). Nigh on impossible to identify where the break was, I would say.....esp when the aerial on AM/FM radios is always FM-only, I was really dangling the wee radio along the ground hehe

We did want to extend the run, so I will simply lay a new cable & accept this was a 2-year pretty successful trial run. A bit irritating, but a clean chance to cover a larger area, so not all bad. Does mean I need to get our gardening relative to mow for a few months, doubt I will be able to get there before June....hey ho.

I assume something like this would do for cable? Any other recommendations (about 150m should do it, by my pacing calculation....)
I've noticed the same actually.. glad you posted that. Had our Worx Landroid in storage over Christmas and spring, brought it out recently and even though there have been no changes to the lawn it has suddenly started getting stuck and fairly reguar "Outside operating area" errors. Never occured to me that it might be a break as I assumed it would simply not work at all.

It's quite possible that the wire has been damaged at some point, as I used a ride on to do the initial cut this year, and we have problems with moles etc as well.

Looks like I have a job to do next weekend. frown

That is superb - great effort!!
Makes my googly eyes seem in desperate need of a makeover (especially as one has fallen off and I can't find the pack I had to buy to get 2!)

Geoff is back out in the garden. Only one break in the cable which we found because the squirrels kindly left it stuck in the air. As it was a guide wire and not boundary it was being reported as broken by the base. A quick switch of cables though confirmed everything else was OK.

The grass is in poor shape though. I have over-seeded and fertilized and have watered every night. Hoping it will spring back in the next couple of weeks.

Rob 1000 is showing his age and developed another fault, this time it is stating L wheel blocked or similar. It still works on flat ground but judders and stops on even the slightest gradient.

I can turn both wheels easily by hand with do detectable difference from before the problem, there is nothing obviously jammed in the mechanism.

Before I take it to bits and clean the motors / drive etc., is there anything else I should be checking / any ideas?

Thanks

Selling my 1 year old Flymo 200. I have new boundary cable. Any ideas how much is this worth if I list it on Facebook marketplace?

Easiest way is to look to buy one. How much would it cost?

So, been running our Flymo 1200 for about a month and it's all good so far.

Mrs 111R commented that the front lawn (cut with a mower) looks more lush than the back lawn. I'm pretty sure this is just because the blades are higher on the lawnmower and drainage/sun levels are different but she seems to think the lawn at the back doesn't look as good and it's the robomower's fault, despite it being on the highest setting too.

Do you lawns look the same, better, worse with a robomower?

Mines a lot better now but we only mowed every few weeks so it never looked any good.

How often is your mower out? I did have mine out every day at first but noticed that the grass was looking flat so backed it off to every other day and looks much better now.

The recommendation was 6 days a week but I changed it to every other day.
