It depends on how good the tiler is and how fussy the client is but 10mm is absolutely not a problem.
I'm pretty fussy and have tiled bowed floors where I could have ground out the middle (but it was an occupied house) or raised 2" in the corners to make it flat but I laid the tiles so that unless you have a long straight edge you'd never know.
I wanted to be 100% sure i'd done as much as possible to avoid and tile cracking so a proper base without any high spots is surely better than trusting the adhesive to cover them. I had nightmares (not really) thinking about if a high spot of concrete etc was just above the level of the adhesive then as soon as you drive a car over it then you risk the tile cracking as the weight isn't being spread out, it's being placed mostly through the high spot. It's unlikely yes, but not unheard of.I'm pretty fussy and have tiled bowed floors where I could have ground out the middle (but it was an occupied house) or raised 2" in the corners to make it flat but I laid the tiles so that unless you have a long straight edge you'd never know.
I'm purely an amateur but I thought for the sake of a small extra cost, why take the risk if i knew I wanted to put cars/bikes and maybe a lift on it at a later date. I have total confidence in the floor now.

It makes no difference that's the point of using a notched trowel.I had nightmares (not really) thinking about if a high spot of concrete etc was just above the level of the adhesive then as soon as you drive a car over it then you risk the tile cracking as the weight isn't being spread out
I suppose you could argue you're saving adhesive by using say a 6mm trowel instead of an 8 or 10 one but really it's pointless.

Some samples.
The small tile (sample of 300x300) is the offering from Solus Ceramics - nice flat finish but colours arent white/black... more cream and gray.
The large tile (300x300 sample) is the offering from Aberdeen Tile - bit of a textured finish but the colours seem good. Willing to live with texture.
Prices are roughly similar at ~£25sqm pre haggling

Hi all
just about to start planning the floor on a large garage floor myself, seeking porcelain tiles from a local supplier. However I read with interest all the great finished floors on these forums, but nothing about how to finish off the tiles at the garage door end.
Without sounding thick, whats the best way ot get the outside / inside bit of tiling sorted, ie the leading egde? When the car tyres hit it I can see cracks / splits in my mind appearing, has anyone got pictures or a solution to this for me perhaps?
With the tiles + adhesive being 15-20mm above the outside concrete edge, whats best to use as a ramp / edge of the garage opening?
And, anyone had any experiences of cleaning / prepping the concrete floor beforehand (mines hovered weekly...) before laying?
Happy new year to you all....

I have one of these on an angle between the concrete “outside” level and the tile level.

Screwed and with a bead of silicone around and under it.

Concrete ramp or conc edging and this to cover the gap / seal to the door

To the dotti anthracite tile folk - are you using the 30 x 30 sized tile?
I did. I DIY'ed mine and I think the smaller tiles are easier to lay on an uneven base. If I was paying a pro, I'd have gone for a larger tile. The other thing to note, even though I bought Anthracite Mapei grout, it's still come out several shades lighter than the tiles. With the benefit of hindsight I'd have gone for black grout.
