Folks, just had a quote on some work, since we're out in the sticks there aren't many trusted ones to compare against so I thought I'd throw it out there. Lots of little bits of work, quoted £411 including LED strip light, all materials and labour...

Install spur to unattached garage- armoured cable from house through existing conduit to garage with double socket and strip light.

Install outside socket- requires going through external wall from existing socket, making good and also lengthening existing wire on pond fountain to reach socket

Installing an extractor fan! Supplied by us, just needs wiring and fixing up

Fixing dead socket in kitchen

Fitting new flex on cooker, running cooker outlet to new socket for lower amperage

Think that's about it, he reckons a day and a half of labour, sounds reasonable?

Where is the spur for the garage coming off . Is the fan circuit already have a isolator etc . Not all the info needed is mentioned to tell you the truth .

Dead Socket ? Its been tested as just been Faulty or is wiring a issue .

Yes, that's very reasonable. I quote for a lot of electrical work and I'd be at £580 for the labour alone, OK fairly specialised industry but we do domestic type stuff in buildings too.

Assuming he's a decent spark and not a cowboy reasonable quote, go ahead.

Exactly . It does not make any sense . Its too cheap if it includes materials .

Did he actually test anything when he came? has he even been ? . I am shocked in more way than one that people just say "yes , go for it " To be honest its a mess and sounds like you will regret it. It does not sound like its going to be done by the book legally

And you cannot even answer any of the questions , which are far more important than the price .

Possibly by the sound of it (and the feedback you have received), one of the few tradespeople remaining in this day and age; who asks for a reasonable return for an honest day's work, rather than the typical gorging type commanding incomes on a par with doctors and other professionals...

Over £400 for these pretty basic tasks sounds quite a bit by any stretch of the imagination, though indeed it's probably a lot less than others would charge. We really have lost the concept of money in the UK, haven't we?

Ignore the most regular poster in this thread, he's an internet warrior.

Seems about spot on, I've 2 sparks I use, they said about the same costs, as in 'Fair'.
