Possibly by the sound of it (and the feedback you have received), one of the few tradespeople remaining in this day and age; who asks for a reasonable return for an honest day's work, rather than the typical gorging type commanding incomes on a par with doctors and other professionals...

Over £400 for these pretty basic tasks sounds quite a bit by any stretch of the imagination, though indeed it's probably a lot less than others would charge. We really have lost the concept of money in the UK, haven't we?
The OP is in lala land . I would love to see the quote. To be honest I dont even believe it. There is TOO much missing and he aint filling in da gaps

Depends . Firstly the OP cannot answer any questions. The spec of the Consumer board , the run lengths etc. What has been tested and what has not . if the fan circuit has already been established with a isolator etc . hey if its all materials and labour. The guy will be earning peanuts once he has replaced and updated stuff.

I assume the quote hasn't been done blindfolded, so is based on their expertise. The OP may well be a bassoon player or lion tamer, so has limited experience, and called on a qualified person.

A day and a half at £200 per day plus parts doesn't sound unreasonable for a local based service.

It's more likely that the OP chooses not to answer your questions.

You seem to be taking it personally that the OP has been quoted a good rate. There are umpteen reasons why somebody might be cheaper or more expensive than somebody else. It depends how busy they are, it depends on their overheads, it depends on their experience of market rates. So I'm not sure why you seem so excited......

Whilst a agree that we cannot judge whether this is a good price or not without more details, it seems a little cheap to me to be honest but not massively.
There could be loads of reasons why this guy wants the job, say for example he is a one man band with an apprentice and fancies a day off next week. Easy day for the lad.
Fed up working on a site on his own, book this in for the day to cover his wages.
Who knows, if he's got accreditation and is going to test and cert let him get on with it

I reckon it a little on the cheap side, day and a half labour for me would be £375 alone.

There has got to be around £100-150 in materials too

I blame him. Coming in with such limited information etc ! Wanting free advice . You cannot ask if its a good price when we have SFA idea what is really needed. He got caught out by the better men of the forum.

Are you some sort of building god? Its pistonheads, this forum is full of free advice, some of it's from good experienced people/tradesmen, the other end seems to be from you.

Brian, do yourself a favour and stop.

There's people on here that'll rip you limb from limb, then there's the PH Private Investigators, who'll find everything about you and throw little snippets out there for all to see....

We all give free advice on here, that's what we do.
If you want to charge for yours, you'd best go elsewhere.

And how many times have all the smart asses come back winging and moaning about the "trades" and how bad they are etc . But seem rubbish at finding the right people and ensuring the correct work is needed etc . And by been a little more clever and answering questions so they themselves can go back to who ever is doing the work and go over it to ensure things are going to be good etc . The more clever you are about whats taking place will always help you work out if a worker is going to do the right work and Notify etc .
