Inspired by the "Things we do that'll make future generations wince" thread, and the mention of Indian sandstone patios being the current fashion.

Please post photos of your patio (sandstone or otherwise).
A little extra detail would be good such as rough price/SQM, drainage considerations, grout, maintenance etc.

I've got some really shoddy, flexible decking and I'm after some inspiration for when I gather the funds to replace it.

Take a look at my recent thread, here:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

There's around 28sqm there

I sourced the sandstone from a trade manufacturer who sells to the likes of jewsons etc. so managed to get it for around £19sqm

Jointing compound i used a geofix alternative which was around £25 a tub and took 3 if i remember rightly

Laid on a type1 mot sub base compacted and then around 50mm of 6:1 sharp sand mortar (across the lot, not spotted)

Drainage, i included a channel into a storm drain and included around a 10-12mm drop slope on the slabs for every running metre or so.

Anything else, just ask smile

The thing is with an attractive patio, it's not about the hard landscaping, it's about the planting and pots. Even a crappy bit of crazy paving or an old concrete slab can look great with imagination.

That's where my money and effort would go, planting and pots.

£2.50ish a slab from Wickes. Been down 15 years and just altered so some bright buff slabs in amongst the dirty ones. Another 10 years and it will all match. Just have plenty of garden furniture on top of it and no-one will notice.

Ours is a Bradstone quartzite slate something or other, damn expensive at £700 for 15sqm packs bit worth it!

When new, also this is how it looks when wet;

When dry/mucky as it is now:

Our house has 2 driveways... access the garage and rear drive from the road behind. Odd but not complaining

Looks great. What Sandstone is this? Also where did you source this from. Looks to me like Mint Fossil?

It looks like this for the time being, and possibly the foreseeable future - the builder hasn't put drainage behind the retaining wall, and we're not sure if it is even up to the job being as tall as it is.

Builder is now sacked, and is contacting his pissed off customers to see if one of them will issue a winding up petition against to save himself the cost... I'm looking at various ways to hold the guy personally liable, either financially or criminally, , rather than letting him hide behind Ltd company. Breaches of the Building Act 1984 or various Consumer protection laws are looking like the most painful way for him.

£20 on a bit of weedkiller and some membrane.
