Can I ask what that is and what it does? A pump? Main water feed (hence the copper pipe)? Assume it will remain accessible as there are isolation valves...And as I haven't chimed in yet, congratulations on an outrageous project! I wasn't sure you'd manage it, but looks well on course now.
I certainly hope you finish soon, hitting refresh on this thread all day is killing my productivity...
It is the pump for the massage jets. The cave will be built around with breeze blocks and then tanked for waterproofing. It will then have a hidden access point in the paving.

Fantastic! Although I have a pool and a whirlpool bath, it all seems rather inadequate now It is the pump for the massage jets. The cave will be built around with breeze blocks and then tanked for waterproofing. It will then have a hidden access point in the paving.
Great view you have from the pool steps by the way, will feel like a proper bit of paradise as you get in.

I read that and was amazed it wasn't Gretchen posting!!!
I did originally write it as something like "Gretchen will be grateful the lads have wood" but my own radar vetoed that one Am ashamed at my own timidity
All this typing.

Just read the whole thread...by a pool in the sun.
Re heating it, I have a gas heater on my pool and if I switch it on after a cold spell it heats a similar sized pool up in a day as long as it is a sunny (UK) day and I leave the solar cover on.
Oil is an expensive way to heat a pool so do look for gas eventually. I looked at ground and air source heat pumps but the guy from the pool company said to buy the £2k gas boiler and spend the £8k I saved on the fancy heat pump for the price of gas. It is also worth looking at Pv panels if you have space in the paddock for a sun facing small wall and just pump it from the pool on a heat exchanger. I know of one bloke who uses old radiators (painted black)on a bill board in his field.
Keep the good work going and updates.
