I have a salt system - the water doesn't taste of salt (of course), but the chlorine is produced by passing salt water over an electrolyte. Fantastic system and largely maintenance free - I never need to check levels, it does it all automatically.
Nice and not stupidly expensive, any disadvantages? (apart from pouring a load of salt in at the start!)
To be honest - I can find no disadvantage at all.

I have my local pool company open the pool (£400 from memory) and they put the salt in. It's about big 5 bags. That seems to last the whole season - this is my second summer with the new system.

With the chlorine system, my last two pools would go green at least twice a year (I live in a very wooded location). This could take a week to sort with shocking, vacuuming etc. The new system has been algae free and I don't even bother to check the levels - it's always perfect. Water tastes like tap water and is very slightly 'silky' to swim in. Lovely.

Electricians are here now so I'll lose power for a bit whilst they connect up to the mains!

I've been watching this with interest, always great to see another pool built biggrin

Looks like Ashers have looked after you well and done a great job - we've dealt with them a lot in the past.

I'm sure they'll be sorting you with a maintenance kit etc, but if you need anything, or any advice, drop me a line.

OP - thought about some sound to light controllers for the Under water lighting? pool parties at night would be an epic sight watching the water change colour with the beat.... ?

I'm looking into lighting that would give it a constant aqua green colour as that always looks great at night. Failing that then a nice blue shade.

The chap who showed me around his system said the same. No down points. Just cut the new salt water equipment into the system and the electronic dosing monitor. Never looked back.

Julian, what have you gone for?

You say of course but I assumed it would be like sea water.

Epic thread, love it.

Julian, what have you gone for?
A standard filtration system coupled with a UV system to minimise chlorine levels. I assume if I wanted to I could change this for a salt water system at some point?

Cheers

Lots done today.

The electricians Have completed the power run and installed the consumer boards in the plant room (still currently the world's worse shed!):

All excess excavation soil/clay/sand has been removed from site adn the pool is now fully concreted in:

And the concrete base is going in where we are building a raised plinth that will hide the concrete and first level of bricks and hold the 5 up-lighters:
