Excuse my ignorance, where does the cover go when it's not covering the pool?
It rolls up into a pit at the end of the pool so you can't see it when it is open.
So does that take us some of the 11m length?

The pool itself is 12 metres long. The cover pit takes 73cm off this and the steps account for a further 1.3 metres. So the actual swimming length is 10 metres when you take away the cover pit and the steps. The water length from the edge of the pool cover pit to the end of the steps is 11.2 metres.

Not wishing to be a Casandra here but our electric slatted cover was a total nightmare. It cost more than most cars. It seemed to breakdown regularly, making the pool unusable (and/or exposed to the elements. It was always expensive to fix. It dragged rubbish into its pit which then couldn't be cleaned out. It was slow to open and close.

We junked it after a season or two. We just have a manual bubble-wrap one now.

I was perhaps very unlucky. I genuinely hope that your experience is far, far better.

We have a manual cover on ours, the 8k for a motorised one like yours was a step too far for me.

This manual one is a thermal cover to retain heat out of season and supposedly keep the pool clean. Bizarrely however we find the pool bottom gets dirtier with it on than off which I put down to the water not circulating freely with it in position. Gives an excuse to put the robot in the pool which is always fascinating to watch (how sad is that!).

Hopefully once the solar heating is fitted we will benefit in the autumn and spring with a slightly longer swimming season.

What brand is your manual one, out of interest - looking to replace the bubble cover with something that sits higher and will keep the crap out to a greater extent.

I hope so too! Ours opens and closes quite quickly (the speed you would expect) and the idea is to hoover off it any debris before opening. There is a missing slat, one not properly connected , a couple with impact damage and some surface scratches, but I expect this to be put right and put it down to teething issues from the installation.

This was supplied by my pool contractor (Construma) its 470 gr/m2 by 5 mm with a floating sleeve at the end.

Including the roller mechanism it was €1425. Probably much cheaper on ebay. Very easy to deploy and roll back for swimming. The pool is at a steady 28C so now in the summer its permanently rolled onto the mechanism, I expect to start using it again in late September.

Thanks - now I look more closely I see it's on the water (I think?). I'm looking at something that sits over the water, on the paving.

Thanks - Yours is awesome.

You will soon be into the joys of water testing kits and Ph control (the key to everything pool water related).
For the technical stuff google trouble free pool forum for lots of good advice.

One tounge in cheek word of advice - get rid of the gas bbq and get a proper charcoal kamado or a pellet grill!

Serious case of pool envy. Need to move out of London, I heard they gave land away for free in the North?

It is, indeed, on the water, that is what keeps in afloat and in place!

Whoah.

Hold up, you're getting all these plaudits about how good a dad you are, and how lucky Francesca is, and in reality she's actually going to be getting her pool a week late? Mate, that's disgusting. She's going to be heartbroken now, you've let her down.

I hope you've bought her a pony and a ménage to make up for it. It's the least you can do.

Actually, you probably have, haven't you?

Enjoy the beers, hope you have a good night. I'm having enough trouble trying to get a 15m2 extension sorted out so Christ knows how you've managed to get this pool done so quickly! biggrin
its MANEGE,

Technically it has grave accent - manège.
I'm poor, I don't know much about the horse world!

We just don't have the time for that right now, but I agree it would be the next step!!!

Our postman had his gas BBQ drilled out to take gas straight off the mains gas, that makes a lot of sense to me and just build in the gas BBQ in to a proper brick surround, I don't like charcoal as makes me ill.

Chav it up with an outdoor pool table - https://www.libertygames.co.uk/store/pool_tables/o...

I saw those shutters and immediately thought of the pool fight in Thunderball! I assume you haven't got a hidden pool with a pet shark in elsewhere in the garden... biggrin
O/T but I used to work in Nassau and my boss owned and lived in the house in Thunderball. Both pools were still operational. One was for the family to play in and the other was linked to and fed by the sea and was full of sea life.
