I hope everyone can see by the pictures that I do all the work whilst the other 2 watch me work.
And I'm the oldest by nearly 20 years. But still the best looking.
Just to clarify you're the dude in the pink hat with his hands on his hips.

Hi Jon, where is your place in Portugal? We spend a lot of time out there.

Great thread. Very impressed with the work.

It's a wonderful thing to have for the family if you have the opportunity. Be prepared to suddenly become even more popular amongst your friends!

Here are some pics from our pool that was probably one of the first of this kind - installed in 1969 - and in Scotland! Heating was a bit cheaper then. It's still in working order, although it hasn't been used for a few years now. Enjoy! (Backwards down a slide was fine in the 70's before Health & Safety....hehe)

I've been away for a day and look what happens! This proves just how hard working and dedicated everyone involved has been.

I've had to wipe some tears away in order to be able to post after seeing the pictures of Francesca's first swim. The look of joy on her face is priceless. That's what it was all about.

Well done to all involved. It's been, emotional.

Been lurking and reading with interest - clearly one very happy daughter which is what it's all about.

Great work by Nick and the team as well!

A lot can happen in a day!

Thanks, it certainly has (and you've reminded me I need to watch Lock, Stock again!).

It's on Boavista Golf near Lagos on the Western end of the Algarve... Whereabouts do you head to?

What a ride! The ups, the other ups, the nearly-down but finding an electrician in half a day......

So pleased Francesca enjoyed her first swim, she looks very happy and so she should, what a great dad she has.

Don't really know what to say except that this thread has spurred me on to get on with the slide I promised my daughter for the holidays - she's been off for 2 weeks already and I haven't even started - I shall remedy that this weekend.

Almancil area in central Algarve. I had a place for a year in Quinta Verde and we now just rent, often Quinta do Lago or on the beach at Vale de Lobo Oceano Clube, but equally outside of there in the general Almancil and surrounding areas. Might buy at some point, we were out for two months last summer and the rental on anything top end is frighteningly expensive!!

Maybe catch up for a beer out there sometime!

Absolutely! A beer is always welcome.

My Grandmother lived in Praia da Luz for 30+ years, and at one point a few years ago between Mum, Dad and myself we were there for nigh on 3 weeks every month, so we bought a place. We used to rent it out too - rents in the peak of summer were £2500 a week, but the new tax changes there just make it a ballache, so its largely empty, plus it's nice to have your 'own' place to walk into.

Absolutely. When I had my place in Quinta Verde we had all our stuff out there we needed so could give a couple of day's notice to the pool guy to turn on the heating and just jump on a plane, picking up some fresh food on the way from the airport. Very convenient!

Here are some more...

Without going back through 18 pages, but did I read that those ones at the edge are only temporary?
That's some dedication cutting all of those to shape only to be lifted again!

Originally they were going to be temporary - but we could have re used them to line up against the permanent copping stones.

Now, however, I have decided I like this finish so we are concreting them into place and will then add a buff finish to hide the concrete gap between the stones and the pool shell.

It will be a bit more work should I ever change my mind, but I really like the effect of paving all the way to the edge!

We're not so far - in the village of Burgau a few miles away.

Edited to add: pool is not as nice!

Fantastic job!

Edging - Most of the older pools in Spain have raised coping as it is said to stop some of the dust going in the water and provides some safety protection.

You have the walkable cover so the safety issue is mitigated so it comes down to personal preference. We also preferred the more modern clean edge finish with the cleaner line. Safety wise ours is illuminated by solar lights but I’m guessing at some stage we may have to fence the area off. French legislation already requires this.
