I have an ongoing legal expenses claim (boundary dispute) on my household insurance policy.

If I leave my present insurers, are they obligated to settle the final lawyer's bill, whenever that might be?

Is the policy with the same insurer as your home insurer or is it an extension underwritten by a different company? (This can happen within one policy book)

In event you would have to read the policy wording to see whether that specific policy needs to remain valid throughout the whole claim process. This should be available online if you don't have it to hand.

I'll have to check that, but at the back of my mind my insurers passed this on to DAS legal expenses.

Without reading the policy I wouldn't be able to say but I would just ring them up and ask them.
You've done well to get them to take on a boundary dispute claim.
