An idea, and it is just that, that S's olds have banded about. S's Nan is getting on, and her health is going down hill a little. S's parents and Nan are also missing S, and vice versa (them London, us Notts)

S's parents house is worth maybe £1 million. They have pondered selling up theirs, and buying something elsewhere with out buildings, one to be converted for Nan, and one for us. Sarah's dad is a very high standard house builder.

They have mail....

That really is the arse end of nowhere (and quite erm how shall we say parochial)

Not much land either

Why there ?
Both Sarah and her parents love being isolated, no neighbours. Plenty of buildings to chose from, others could be flattened. 2 acres is more than sufficient I'd say.

It is only at the ideas stage, Yorkshire has also been mentioned. It's not property porn as such, but for what's being discussed it could be, for us.
I can see the appeal, but I wouldn't want to have to try and earn a living from there. Nice project, but as a (multi-generational) family home I'm not sure it would work, especially if children are on the horizon.

However, if you do launch into something like that, it’s has massive classic thread potential.
I had thought about if it's suitable inclusion for the thread, but I went with the word your, as for me it fills the brief. Any such project will be to be documented on here, for sure.

Can you elaborate, as I'd thought the opposite? The one possible downside is how much work (leather refinishing) there is in the area, but I'm sure I could make it work. The work bonus is that there are more than enough small outbuildings to make one a workshop for my business. Very handy for doing take away jobs, such as a few months ago when I took an entire Rover P6 interior from a customer.

The multi generational thing I'm sure would be a bonus, S's Nan misses her dreadfully, and surely extra child support would be good, or am I missing something else that you've considered?

I can see that angle, but we wouldn't be living in the same property, and I can rub along with her fine. I suspect, on the flip-side, that it's when she's 150 miles away from us she frets more!

Fair point, I doubt I'd be in the same career if I'd stayed there.

I'm with Fermit. Some years back I bought a house posted here. It was worthy of thread interest but isn't pawn in the sense of the NZ assassin's bolt-hole or the multi-million Cote d'Azur places, but they all have a place and something attainable always has an appeal.

And isn't that part of the charm of this diverse thread - hence the love for half of Scotland for the price of a London garage or whatever - we cater for all budgets and tastes, the criteria being that whatever is posted is (mostly) 'special'?

Well said, I agree with that. As you say, some which people post I think are you fking blind? Then someone will post something perfect in my mind and someone else will retort 'there's a railway line a mile away, I'm out'

Fantastic value, but Sarah's Dad gets too excited by an out-building for that one I suspect!

Apart from really being in the middle of nowhere the 100acres in Campbeltown posted earlier would surely be better? https://www.galbraithgroup.com/media/images/ckdrps...

Stunning, but.... Sarah's Sister and fella have two kids, who they maintain close relations with, down South. Sarahs mum will not get on a plane, the only practical way to get from Scotland to Henley On Thames with any regularity.

interesting looking building. Needs some proper nice furnishings though.

Grounds need to mature too.
I'm actually impressed with how devoid of any kind of taste that is.
Give it 20years for the grounds to mature, and get some people in that have taste, think it will look much better.
Ask Dwell to take all their ste away, ask the gardener to dispose of the homosexual homage to a past French liaison. Remodel the bathrooms away from the ‘Northern ITV Presenter’ style and let everything weather in and it’s probably quite a nice house in a lovely plot.

Just take it to the tip. Plenty of places will accept it, and asbestos sheets like that are pretty safe.
or just factor in a professional asbestos handler to make the place safe in amongst the other billion quid you'll need to sort the whole gaff out?

It wont do though. He can put his hand to anything, and is very clever at stretching a budget. An example with their house in Henley. They bought it for around £600k, dated, think 30 years not touched dated. They spent, IIRC, about £80k renovating the lot. Sarah's mum when we were last down said of the kitchen that it had cost them £20k, but the way it had been crafted and designed you'd be sure it was an £80k kitchen. This house is now worth around £1million.

Pity, it looks like it's about 15 mins from the airport (destination Glasgow in 40mins). I'd bet the flight times don't align anyway...they never do.

The place looks just like what an ex-colleague of mine has gone for, from a London corporate job to self-employed with her hubby retraining into a land management type job.
