And no significant change from the original 14,000 sq/ft extension plans put forward from over 7 years ago.

50,000 sq ft in total.
Did anyone else watch this last night?

It was, to me, a classic case of more money than sense and ended up as a massive vanity project for someone who wanted to boast about having the most expensive/ biggest/ grandest private residence in London.

I don't think there was one element to it (other than perhaps the garage) where I thought that I'd love to have something like that if I happened to end up becoming a billionaire.
Totally agree. All that moolah and not an ounce of taste. What was particularly obnoxious were his efforts to get slebs to attend the grand opening/showing off event on the pretext of supporting his charidies, which he was at pains to tell us about.

I liked the bit where he explained that when he viewed it, it was hard to get past the amount of gold, glass etc and that he had a vision to turn it into something incredible and tasteful.

Then put an LED lava screen above the pool.

Was this John Caudwell place in Mayfair? Looked hideous in the trailer so I didn't bother watching.

Just recently on this thread we've had a black and white manor in Tamworth or somewhere. Was that the one John Cauldwell used to own before he bought the London place?

No. The place in Tamworth is owned by a scrap yard owner.

Johns place is Broughton Hall near Market Drayton.

Cant fault his business ability. Can fault his idea of style. It's not a case or either/or.

Both lovely. The Amotherby one used to be a care home for many years and was very run down. A local GP bought it and has done a fabulous refurb job.

The funniest thing for me was the young Lithuanian girlfriend. Bearing in mind that he is, according to Wiki, 31 years older than her, with one ex-wife and five children from three different partners, and she said something like

"I have three strict rules of dating men - never date a man more than 10 years older than me, never date a divorced man and never date a man with children. But when I first met John there was something about him..."

Cue Caroline Ahern, "So, Miss whatever your name is, what first attracted you to the billionaire John Caudwell?"

Given that pre nups aren't legally binding in the UK. Why in gods names would he risk any of it for a bit of pussy? Surely hookers are cheaper!

It seemed to us that he had surrounded himself with would-be wannabes without an ounce of design, or common, sense.

Stupid ideas poorly played through without and intuition or knowledge or common sense... or thought.
