Mattresses - Otty, Leesa, Eve etc
Discussion
Has anyone bought any of these mattresses and have any feedback on them?
Our loft conversion is complete and a new bed is arriving in a couple of weeks, so I need a new mattress. These seems to have brilliant reviews, 100 night "sleep guarantee" and seem incredible value.

We have got a Simba, it's fine but a bit on the firm side for my taste. Also the memory foam layer doesn't breathe, so can feel a bit clammy on a warm summer's night.
Think we fell for the marketing, to be honest. Next time I'll be tempted to go for a proper old-fashioned pocket-sprung mattress.

We tried pretty much all of the online-only foam mattresses.
They all feel nice to start with, but within a couple of weeks start to lose support and nearing the end of the 100 day trial there would be NO side support at all, so you'd just roll off if you were anywhere near the side.
The only one that was slightly better was Simba, but it was clear within the trial period that it was still deteriorating, just at a slower rate than the others, so we returned it too.
Ended up with a John Ryan Origins Pocket zip-link (1,500 springs one side for medium, 2,000 other side for firm). LOVE IT. One year in, it's still as comfortable as the first day. I dread to think what the foam ones would have been like by now.
Plus they still give a 60 day return period, so there's nothing to lose.

We've just gone through the whole process of lying on a lot of all sorts of mattresses and gone for a Vi Spring Baronet, awaiting delivery so can't report back on it.
Things we did find interesting were;
- most mattress manufacturers offer the "return if you don't like it" but say you need to keep it for at least 30 days and must tell them before 90, however, if you do want to return it then you need to have one of their other mattresses, if it's cheaper they keep the £ or more expensive you pay the extra, if you buy from somewhere like Dreams/JLP then you can switch manufacturers. This is sometimes described as a 45 night sleep guarantee, but still the 30/90 days apply.
- it's not necessarily the spring count that's important, the rest of the construction is equally/can be more important.
- whilst you can get half n half beds, if you're buying anything smaller than a King then you're unlikely to benefit from it!

I've had 2 foam mattresses from Ergoflex and couldn't be happier with either.
I used to suffer from bad backs and overheating in bed and they are one of the few i've tried that stops both.
I paid £499 last year for the latest one

The PistonHeads mattress supplier of choice, very happy owner of an Artisan 1500 zip and link super king.Plus they still give a 60 day return period, so there's nothing to lose.

I'd say it's OK - it's a bit soft but we both find firm mattresses uncomfortable.
John Ryan's thing seems to be to do mattresses similar to Vi-Spring but at much lower cost. I got fed up looking and wanted to buy the most expensive one they had but they talked us down from that.

We are currently trialing the Emma mattress, a "Which" Best Buy winner similar to the Simba etc.
Lots of reports saying these foam rolled mattresses smell when new, and some literally can't shift the stench akin to chemicals despite airing for several days. Fortunately the Emma doesn't seem to suffer which was the main reason I favoured this one over the Simba and Eve.
As a side sleeper I'm finding it quite firm. Initially okay but ache in the lumbar regions come morning and occasionally shoulder pain too although this could well be the pillow. These mattresses are warm though and I can only imagine what they would be like in the summer. As a consequence I think I will be returning for a refund whilst still in the trial period. I don't want to risk the loss of shape that seems to be a common issue either so time to look elsewhere.
