2018 Lawn thread
Discussion
My Worx Landroid is going back to Austria as it is constantly losing the connection to the base station, in the last week when we have been away on holiday the growth has gone nuts, cut twice in 7 days but really could have been cut at least 4 times. Every other bit of grass around here is totally dead but the sprinklers have really done a cracking job, 40 mins every day, but I could probably reduce that. Around here supplies are actually above average so no chance of a hosepipe ban this year.
The cut is long but the coverage is very good and thick.
Our Lawn was laid right at the end of May, watered twice a day for the first few weeks, then daily for another week or so and have eased off to doing it once a week.
The lawn gets plenty of shade, and is still mostly green. A few brown patches have shown up, which i am trying to revive by giving them a patch soaking with the hose every couple of days in the AM. otherwise still watering for about 30-40 mins each week.
I would rather leave it and let it go brown tbh, and if there is a hose pipe ban i guess i won't have a choice. but will it have established enough for it be able to withstand that? I live i in the south / southeast and we haven't really had rain since the beginning of June.

I laid mine at the same time. Mine is in full sun though, so its been getting 40 mins every 2 days. Its not established enough to let it go green and I put too much effort into it to give up for the sake of £200 odd on the bill..The lawn gets plenty of shade, and is still mostly green. Hardly surprising this thread hasn't had many updates recently as most people are probably just watching their lawn go browner and browner!!
I was watering my lawn once a week for about an hour but as this drought shows no sign of ending I have stopped this as much through cost as anything. As people have said, the grass has just gone brown and dormant so as soon as we get any decent rainfall (September/October?) then it'll come back to life.
Hopefully......

The only downside to my watering is that my robot mower is away being repaired and the lawn is growing so quickly it needs cutting every single day, although I only have a chance to do it every 2-3 days.
I always thought it OTT that professional sports pitches up cut twice a day, but at this time of the year I see why they need it given the rapid growth.

You're watering it too much! I always thought it OTT that professional sports pitches up cut twice a day, but at this time of the year I see why they need it given the rapid growth.

Sports pitches are generally rye grass so will grow quicker. Fescues and bents will grow slower in a luxury lawn.I always thought it OTT that professional sports pitches up cut twice a day, but at this time of the year I see why they need it given the rapid growth.
We had a good bit rain in Newcastle the other day which has helped a little. Some parts of my golf course look fantastic where they've had sprinklers, shady areas or better soil, but other areas makes you wonder if it will recover.
I'd still take this weather and a brown lawn every summer!
