Hi

So my driveway is approx. 6 feet wide, with a wall of the house on one side, and fencing with concrete fence posts on the other.

I want to fit a wooden gate, and the wall-side is straightforward enough. I’ve researched drilling concrete fence posts too, and it seems doable.

I just wanted to see if anyone with more experience has any advice. Will the concrete fence post remain stable if I drill a few holes to attach a timber post to it?
Also, would it be better/possible to instead fit a side hinged bi folding wooden gate to the wall side of the drive?

Thanks in advance

Id be hinging the gate to the house wall, and not to the fence post. Let the wall take the weight of the gate.

Don't concrete posts normally have holes through them that you can bolt a wooden post too?

Would 3 or 4 of these be strong enough? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Postfix-Slotted-Concrete-... You could notch the wooden post so it sits flush with the concrete post.

You can also get hinges that clamp round posts. One of our gates is hung on a metal post with these. Works as well as any of the others.

I drilled my concrete fence post and screwed a piece of 4 x 2 to it to hang the gate on. It is only a light gate but it was easy to drill and the gate is still there 5 years later.
