You're a very naughty boy

FWIW I did check out the Lawn King one you mention at my local dealer. It looks decent, and is indeed a re-hashed Grillo, with some Climber elements and some from the more domestic MD range. The weedy B&S single put me off too, and the dealer was doubtful whether it would cope with my field but certain that the AS (from a different dealer - I showed him the ad) would do.

If you're after scary off-road kicks, the mower really delivers yikes

Anyone have a husqvarna lt151? Theres one for sale locally that doesnt look too bad. How are they?
I’ve had one from new and it was my first ride on mower. Probably 12 years old now. Has been brilliant and has only had a couple of proper services. Would definitely get another Husqvarna.

Apparently the importer doesn't have any more of the Lawn Kings until next year as they've all gone. The engine's a disappointment though.

Anyone have experience of Ariens Zero turn mowers? Looking at an Apex 52 in particular. Seems perfect based on the spec and brochure but local dealer doesn't have a demo to look at.

Sorry .. late to this thread and just seen question on Ariens .. Last year I bought an Ariens Zenith 60. I have around 3 acres of fairly flat lawn/field to mow and it used to take about 4 hours with my Countax 42 inch deck. Now its done in around 1 hour with a much better finish. The power and the depth of the cutting deck really has made such a difference .. Highly recommended from my experience. Only had it for just over a year so cannot speak to its durability but no problems so far.

Ordered an Apex 52 last week so hopefully it won't be too long!

Thanks though, sounds good and is actually also to replace a Countax with a 42 inch deck. Only got about 2 acres to cut so thought the 52 inch deck would do nicely.

Super machine the apex 52. Probably our biggest selling zero turn and at sub £4k the best value one on the market for the quality.

Sub £4k?! List price is almost £6.5k if you include the mulching kit. I got quite a big discount from my local dealer but not that much!

Morning all. I am in the market for a new machine and have been looking at the Husqvarna Rider range (the 214TC in particular). I would use this to not just at home but also as part of my business (tree surgery and garden maintenance). My main question with the rider is that it is a mulching machine, but one of the properties I look after is a country hotel with large lawns. For the first 2 cuts of the year I do a cut and collect and then subsequent cuts are mulched. However, the Husqvarna won't collect, so my real question is how would it fare with doing a mulch cut on longer grass? I would obviously not be taking as much off as I would with a cut and collect cut, but would this still work?

I have a R316T. According to the Husqvarna book of words, you should cut long grass in steps, as opposed to chopping off in one go. One of difficulties, if doing it as a job, is what the customers will think.

When our grass is very long , it is mown at normal height, but it does not mulch properly. The long bits are just left until the next mowing. Eventually the mulchings will disappear when they have through the blades a few times. As an alternative, depending on the area you have to mow, it's quite simple to use a lawn rake to collect the long clippings, especially if they have been allowed to dry out.

That all makes sense and for the first cut of the year, I due reducing height cuts for the health of the grass. I think that the Husky rider will be great for the job having looked further into it. Sadly raking isn't an option as there are about 2 acres of lawns to cut, which takes all day at the hotel. The mulch cut will be superior though and it is these cuts throughout the season which I think the Husky will excel at compared to the new Stihl ride on we purchased recently.

Agreed. Two acres is a bit much to rake by hand. eek The problem I found with 'stepped' cutting is that the wheels flatten the grass after the high cut, so if you try a lower cut fairly soon after, the flattened grass has not reverted to upright and isn't snipped.
If you let the grass stand upright again, it will have grown some more, so you are back where you started.
I'll be very interested in how you find the procedure.

Does the 214TC deck have a removable plug like my 216 does? If so, remove that for the early cuts and it will rear discharge (leaving clippings behind obviously) then replace and mulch on subsequent cuts/visits.

The 214TC does have a removable plug so can mulch or discharge which will be handy. I have just ordered it, so come the end of the week, we will see what it is like hopefully!
I had seen the tow behind take thingy. Could be a good idea and make life easier. I do also have a Honda self propelled mower that does collect so could use that if needs be.

Yeah we're £3995 for the ikon x 52. I'd love to be able to get more but its a competitive market out there.

I'm now looking at Zero Turn machines and like Ariens or Husqvarna. But, as Irish Boy advised in an earlier post, I am paying attention to where I might get servicing help from in the future rather than buying off one of the big online sellers and worrying about that later when I have a problem.

It doesn't make great reading, certainly if you are based just to the west of London and not in some big farming area.

When you search for Ariens servicing dealers they seem to list loads of places. But when you go to their individual websites there is no mention of Ariens and some of these places don't even do servicing of big gear of any kind!
That's a bit cynical in my view, making it look like they have a much bigger support network than they actually do.

Husqvarna at least only list accredited dealers who actually have heard of Husqvarna but a lot of these are concerned with robot mowers and small stuff.
Again a bit misleading if you are assuming they are going to want to get involved in big stuff that might have to get hauled away.

Ah OK, £3995 is along the lines of what we were quoted for the ikon too - thought you were selling the Apex 52 for that price! Hoping it gets delivered later this week so will report back.
