Electricians - How long/how much to wire a house?
Discussion
Hi
I'm in the process of building a holiday home in Croatia and just trying to get vague ideas of how long different jobs take to do.
So, how long would it take to wire a new build? For the following:
1. Fitting fusebox
2. Wiring - all the walls are currently bare and not boarded, so just the running of cables for sockets, lighting and light switches and attaching to the walls in conduit/with fixings. Not including fitting the sockets etc (as this will be done when walls are being boarded), just looping the cable where the sockets/switches will be.
House floor area is c.300m2
Many thanks

Very much depends what the spec is.
Eg my home has 4 sockets, one light switch and one light per room.
The current build has at least 4 different types of lighting, switched from 3 doors.
For a standard new build spec 2 blokes would first fix in 2-3 days IME
A high spec build with data etc could easily double that

It's 14 rooms, c.45 sockets in total (1 being a cooker socket so on separate wire), c.30 light fittings (with around five switched from two locations), and wiring for 7 air con units. Eg my home has 4 sockets, one light switch and one light per room.

Thoughts welcome.

How do you expect an English electrician to be able to even think of knowing how much this would cost?
It's in a different country, that will no doubt have completely different regulations and materials costs etc etc.
Didn't you kinda get that feeling on your plastering thread?
If you read my original post you'll see I'm asking how many days roughly, not the cost. I'm aware of the cost of materials over there and regulations. It's in a different country, that will no doubt have completely different regulations and materials costs etc etc.

The plastering thread is different - if you read the entire thread you will realise this. That thread is asking about English plasterers working abroad. This thread is purely asking roughly how many days this sort of job would take, based on the specifications mentioned.

Which a UK electrician is unlikely to be able to answer, because of the probable difference in regulations etc etc.
The regulations are actually a lot less strict over there, so if a UK electrician gives me an answer of roughly X days in the UK, then it's likely that over there it will take slightly less if I'm lucky, else pretty much certainly no more. Alucidnation said:
What spec have you put together?
basic details off the top of my head are as above: It's 14 rooms, c.45 sockets in total (1 being a cooker socket so on separate wire), c.30 light fittings (with around five switched from two locations), and wiring for 7 air con units. elise2000 said:

Last year we had a total re-wire. Two storey 7 rooms total. It took 3 days, cost £1500. I can only guess that you may well pay double and it shall be done within a week?
Thanks for this - was this including materials or just labour?Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
