Probably another dodgy debt collecting company run by a friend or a family member. How many innocent people will they have done this to over the years? Shocking.
it's a lot less scary and threatening than I imagined a debt collection letter would be.

Well, they're not going to mention the baseball bat and knuckle duster collection in any written documentation are they??

I’m actually considering going down to their offices. It’s probably some spotty teenager behind a desk.
I’m a hormonal woman who manages on no sleep and has biceps of steel thanks to lifting giant baby. I could be quite scary

As entertaining as that might be, the more legally-minded amongst us might advise otherwise. smile

Yep, best to avoid that kind of confrontation.

If it were me I’d do exactly what the letter says not to do, ie nothing. The op has already stated her case in detail directly to the plumbing firm.

What is the name of the debt collection agency?

A brief letter by signed for delivery to them stating the debt is in dispute will stop them writing you anymore letters.

What a farce, biglaugh

Send debt agency a clearly typed up letter, same as you sent to the plumbers, explaining you are being billed for the work that was not done & for time they did not work. They are fraudulent trying too extort money to them explain you have disputed it several times with them, have sought legal advice and will continue to dispute the debt.

KEEPS COPIES & RECORDS OF ALL DOCUMENTS.

But yes, they are royally taking the piss. Outright scare tactics in the hope they frighten you into backing down. It's a down right con & infuriating in principle.

Worth putting that in a Signed for letter

According to their own T&C's they are supposed to respond!
Have you got a link? smile

What a load of bks, they are making this up as they go along!!! They arnt even abiding by their own T&Cs... Charging VAT on the "charge", having a dispute resolution, mediation, 14 days etc... They arnt even following their own freaking process.

op - make sure you save a series of snapshots of their t&cs/save copies dated & timed. Proof they are literally charging you whatever they feel like. irked

Edit: worth going through their T&C and highlighting/noting downy the aspects of it which they are not following/abiding by. Might be useful in future.

They are downright shysters.

The next old school debt recovery tactic is to post you a county court claim form they've filled out in their offices, but not actually issued at court yet, (and they probably won't ever do so).

I checked the plumbing company on companies house today.

Says they were incorporated last year and there have been no name changes and there is no link to the director to any other active or dissolved businesses.

I have found articles fo the company being active in 2015, and also his own Linkedin profile says he has been running the business since 1996

Owner
IGM Plumbing Heating & Drainage
March 1996 – Present (22 years 4 months)Harpenden
We are a local family run business based in Harpenden and have been established since 1996. We have been taking care of our clients Plumbing, Heating & Drainage needs along with Power Flushing, Bathroom Design and Installations, Solar Panel Designed, Repaired and Installation.

I just looked up the M.D. on LinkedIn. If he saw this thread he might realise he’s onto a loser.

So cute. The owner even left his own review on google. Including a picture of some shoddy wiring that would blow the heads of any PH spark.

As far as I can tell from looking through his facebook contacts, all the other reviews on google (that are positive) are from either family or friends...

I was reading this and thought the name sounded familiar...

That's because one of the workers used to keep his van in the car park under my flat.. that was until I got woken up at 3am on a Saturday night by sirens, he'd taken them on quite a chase and for some reason thought it'd be a good idea to drive back to where he lived. Where he was promptly ripped out of the van and cuffed.

Update - just arrived home from night away to find another letter from the debt collectors threatening me to delete a Facebook post within a private local group where I was asking if anyone had heard of them or had dealings with them.
Ive been told in the letter if I don’t delete my Facebook post that they will instruct solicitors saying that my comments were libellous. I’ve not said anything negative about the company other than ask if anyone had heard of them as the reviews posted online make them appear to be difficult to deal with
