Mother of Christ. The complexity and the faffing.

I'm an Octopus Go customer (EV to charge overnight, but I don't do huge mileage, only about 25 miles a day on average). My tariff is about to end next month (7p overnight rate, bye bye), and calculations show that I've actually been a bit worse off on Go than if I'd been on the standard tariff all year. But looking at things now, I think (based on some rudimentary calculations in my head using the Compare app), I will probably be better of on Agile than on their new standard variable rate. They are offering a new Go rate, but given it's far higher than my existing one, and looks to be in proportion to the new standard variable compared to how my existing Go was to the standard variable, I *think* I stand to be better off about £50 a month on Agile. And, knowing the times of day when Agile prices are at their lowest, and working from home 5 days a week (and usually being home all weekend too, God life is exciting), I can manage things like laundry and dishwasher to run as the cheapest times.

So I think I'll go for it, but I am a bit fearful of the complexity and the maths. I like neither complexity, nor maths. I am a mathsophobe, and I'd far rather not have to worry about it.
Each monthly bill shows you how much you have consumed at peak and off peak with an equivalent kwh price.
From this it is easy to see if you are saving and to substitute in other rates (Agile will be tricky though)

anyone thinking of jumping to ovo anytime?
Why would we move are they offering anything good?
if you have an ev they offer 10p anytime rate for ev charging and the regular rate matches the price cap

Thanks very much for trying to help this idiot. I think it's beyond me. I can't see where to manipulate the % part you refer to.

I'll just switch it off at 1430 so the house runs from the grid, and switch it back at 1730 so the house runs from the wall.
I'm assuming you have the Tesla app.

Go to Settings

Then Powerwall

100% Backup / 0% Time-based Control

I'm now drawing 5.0kW into the wall. The washing machine has just gone on, but it hasn't really started yet. Wifey just asked if I wanted a cuppa, so it's now 8.3 from the grid. - KERCHING smile

If you have a compatible EV and a compatible charger. Their range of compatible chargers extends to 2 makes. Their compatible vehicle list doesn't include Nissan Leaf, surely the most common EV on the road.

that's got to be the majority covered for? I'd have thought more teslas have been sold than leaf's but I might be wrong, you dont see many nissan leafs around here.

either way could be worth considering

Yep, expect you're right that there are more Teslas now. Was just pointing out there are lots of chargers and some cars which aren't compatible - neither my car nor my charger is.

I think hes on about the fact they take an amount out of your credit balance before giving you a bill. Not the direct debit.
So I have a balance of £400 and then it drops by £200, then a day or so later get an actual bill for £200 for instance.
Spot on!
Annoying, but not the end of the world. Not too surprised to see I'm not alone either.

I dont see what the issue is really my DD goes in on the 1st charges come off on the 5th and bill is issued on the 6th or 7th

Why is it such a problem
My only issue is that they don’t actually send me a bill that details how they’ve arrived at the amount they’ve debited from my account until I ask them. Ideally I like to have the bill prior to or at the same time as they take the money.
Agreed

6.3kW consumed in an hour. I'd normally be in floods of tears.

It just so happens that the neighbours have invited us over for drinks at 18:30. So I can turn everything off before we go over, and this time we won’t even be sitting in the dark! hehe

15.0kW used in three hours. Settings reset to "normal" and everything is coming out of the Powerwall.

The engineer came round today, electric reading works but gas will take a day or 2.

Does the cost detailed Inc standing charge?
Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

Depends on the mood of the IHD I find.
Cheers.

Oddly, it's recording today as yesterday on the app and a slightly different reading. Are there manual settings I need to sort?
The ihd is pointless
Yes, I'm starting to realise that now. They haven't even programmed the right cost per KWh in. Nor does it include the standing charge.

At best, its guesswork.

The bloody website is saying I didn't opt in again... I did however take a screenshot of the site this morning showing I had opted in with almost 10hrs to go before the start of the session...

Wonder if I'll get another "oops, sorry - you opted in but didn't opt in fast enough so we're going to give you a quid's worth of points by way of apology" email...

21kwh for me. Charged the car, battery, two loads of washing and did some ironing. Turned the battery back on after, so used the sum total of about 20wh foe the hour. If I don't get a few quid for that I will be well annoyed.

Question for Octopus users. I have just been moved over from Bulb and put on Octopus Go. I would like to be on intelligent Octopus but have neither a compatible car or an Ohme charger.

Do they check for either? and if so how thoroughly? I would be happy with the standard 6 hours overnight.

The app tests for connectivity. I guess you'll 'get away' with it for a month or two, but once they see you're not allowing auto-scheduling I expect they'll switch you back.

Yes they do now check, but didn't before.
Have a look at Agile as it works out cheaper than Intelligent and does not require an EV.
Rates have been as low a 6p overnight this week.

OK. I make the payback on 12p per unit on Go vs 10p on intelligent about £300 a year so possibly worth buying an Ohme charger

i don't think i've had an 'intelligent' charge once since i switched to that tariff. 11.30 - 5.30 only. east mids, so maybe the generally high percentage of fossil fuel in the energy mix here is a factor?
