It s been very windy quite a few days this week, but this hasn t translated into cheap agile rates. Especially today given it s a weekend.
Seems unusual.
Gridwatch is showing pretty much no solar energy for yesterday at all, not really surprising given how close we are to the solstice and how dull and wet it was in some areas. CCGT usage has been all over the place though, presumably as wind and nuclear can pretty much meet the overnight demand but without solar the daytimes are a struggle.Seems unusual.

Looking at moving to Octopus,it would seem to be a lower unit rate for me if I do.
I can't seem to get a tariff that gives me a reduction in electricity at off peak. I don't have an EV or battery storage or ASHP, and that seems to exclude me is that really fair ?
I would run , dishwasher, tumble dryer and washing machine off peak . Also background electrical convector heater.
I may call them next week but it seems odd . Surely someone has had this request before but I can't see it anywhere on their site .
I don t think your load shifting will bring your average down by much, have you looked at a quote from home energy elec only tariff? It was the best I could find although it is variable.I can't seem to get a tariff that gives me a reduction in electricity at off peak. Just to follow up on this I called them today and spoke to them about lower cost overnight electricity. They answered the phone and were quite helpful. They do offer 6 hours of lower cost electricity and I explained I had no EV or HP . This means I do not meet the criteria of the arrangement. However if I intend getting an EV I can take the tarrif. BUT they want to fit a charger at my house. I got the impression they are well versed in this question and knew exactly what I was asking. They basically said no by saying Yes with a few conditions. Doing a bit of internet hunting last night it appears a few cases are mounting of unfair discrimination on energy prices on this exact subject. Let's see what happens.I can't seem to get a tariff that gives me a reduction in electricity at off peak. Buy more of something, and buy it when your seller is motivated, and you can get a better unit price.

Just to use an example my 93 year old mother has to pay more for her electricity than my 30 year old son with EV . Cold old lady versus smug young EV driver.

The reason it may be being challenged as unfair is that the option to buy at the lower cost is not open to everyone.

Octopus Intelligent Go currently gives 6 hours at 7p/kWh and 18 hours at 31.94p/kWh giving a weighted average rate of 25.7p/kWh and a standing charge of 47.08p/dayJust to use an example my 93 year old mother has to pay more for her electricity than my 30 year old son with EV . I believe Flexible Octopus is currently at 26.9p/kWh and 46.6p/day. Unless you really can load shift in the way that charging your car at night does, and soak up surplus cheap power at their demand, there’s not much discount. Your mother would probably be worse off.

Those cheap hours are offset by expensive power during the day.
I don't think there's any sort of EV requirement to join Agile, and it's potentially cheaper at the times an elderly lady is likely to use electricity.
I'm sure it's against their terms, but I was on the non-Intelligent version of Go for years without an EV. It was an Octopus meter fitter who advised me to do so

Your 93 year old mother pays more for her tea bags than Manchester United does. Because she buys them in small quantities from places that are convenient to her.
But if she wanted the Man Utd deal for 250,000 bags, she can have it.

Well I feel diddled now, I've been with Octopus years (on Agile and Tracker for gas now) and all I got was the usual 8 points on each of my 4 spins this month.

I don't even get "8 points" ever and never get more than 2 spins a month

The fire service just want to stay in bed all night. There is so much on during the night including people now charging EV,'s. It out of date advice.
I thought the main issue with tumble dryers was people not cleaning them out properly after each use so the fluff eventually built up and caught fire in certain circumstances. If you clean it out after each use then the risk of it catching fire reduces significantly.
