Hi, I am looking to put something on our new shed floor. Main reason for putting something is to avoid any damage to wooden floor when moving things or if I drop something.

I was looking at lino but not sure if that will create any condensation /rotting problems. Shed is on a set of bearers about 1inch above a concrete base (which In turn is about 100mm above ground)..

Any suggestions please.

Thanks

Personally I wouldn't bother, I've got 2 motorbikes, on their side stands, and some heavy machinery in mine, I don't expect the floor to get damaged. In the past I've had a lathe mounted on the floor of a shed, that shed had an OSB floor, there were zero problems.
The only thing I'm contemplating for the floor in my shed is some brush on wax product.
I wouldn't be putting lino on the floor, for the reason you mentioned.

What are you planning on dropping that would damage wood but that lino would prevent ?

Personally I'd leave it and if you damage it plywood over the top.

Astroturf? I've got it in mine (was left over from the garden).

Cardboard, duct taped together to stop it moving and with old carpet over it, worked well in my shed.

I used Leyland Floor paint in my shed. Covered nice and easy to clean off. Still looks fine 2 years on (could do with a clean thought)

It's a shed. Give it a month and they'll be enough cobwebs you won't see the floor. Otherwise any old leftover things that would cover a floor.

On the whole, I agree with those who say “just leave it, it’s a shed!”

Mind you....we had to get cheap temporary flooring for our ‘sunroom’ a couple of years back (big family party, ufh wasn’t ready to be tiled....bad timing!), & I picked up a load of decent office carpet tiles for £100.
Roll forward and I carpeted the double garage with them, and now have put some down in one of our 3 (!) sheds.....still have enough left to do the rest!
So....cheap carpet if you are concerned...or even old carpet when you next replace some in the house.

Or leave it as it is....

I think carpet in a shed would look wrong and go manky and smelly.

If you really want to protect the current floor, I'd use sacrificial hardboard sheets, pinned down.

I have vinyl flooing in my garage (over concrete) - it looks good but does damage and mark easily.

Good sheds are dry. Carpet is fine.
I have foam interlocking tiles over cardboard on my concrete garage floor

I have a new shed. I have put some leftover hardboard just inside the door as a form of doormat. It is a high wear area and can be replaced as necessary, probably never?
It is there to save wear on the shed floor from repeated footfall.
