Please bear with me as I provide a bit of background info below;

Our boiler was installed back in 2003, by a qualified (and trusted) fitter, according to the instructions as provided by the boiler manufacturer.

For more years than I can remember, we've had a maintenance contract on this boiler, and every year it has been serviced, and also repaired when necessary.

Recently, we've had an issue with the hot water (boiler whistling when running hot water) and an engineer visited and concluded that the water pressure was too high, and we needed a pressure regulator (he didn't even measure the water pressure!).

Following the fitment of a regulator, the whistling problem persisted...

After some research, I found that a particular part (magnetic flow switch and filter) required replacement - however - apparently it's a bugger of a job to do!!

Anyway - I placed a call to get a repair and....

Now we are being told that the flue does not meet with regs? The phrase "NCS VERBAL TERMINAL POSITION" was cited.

But it sounds to me as if they just don't want to do the job, and possibly no longer want to service the boiler as it's too old?

Can any plumbers / gas experts comment?

Ncs is nothing to worry about, just means 'not to current standards'. Nothing needs doing about it and it's not unsafe.

NCS = Not to current Standards.

You probably need to put some pics up for a gas bod to comment. I suspect that you are correct in your assumptions though.

Thanks all - pretty much confirms what I thought, that they no longer want to maintain it.

If it helps, I argued my case with AXA home assist this year where a PCB part on our boiler failed and I’d forgotten to get it serviced - they tried to deny claim, however their T&Cs were not watertight - so I was able to point out that lack of servicing was not a causative factor, and that there is nothing an engineer would do to check or maintain a PCB during a service

So may be worth a go along similar lines (how can it be related to a flue position).

Our floor mounted boiler is installed just like that.

More importantly what are you going to do about the pebble dash? And replace that head guard with stainless steel version!

lol

Lol, I've never liked the pebble dash, but the house found me, I didn't find it (as so to speak) - we initially rented it and then ended up buying it.

On the bright side it's relatively low maintenance, however I've curse with the amount of times I've brushed against it and scratched myself!

And yes, you're right of course about replacing that guard with a stainless steel version, I hadn't realised how bad it looked until I took these pics.
