Folks of PH, currently completely renovating our garden & intending to install a new lighting system. Budget is flexible based on quality and I've seen a few mentions here and there for Techmar (https://www.gardenlightshop.com/37-garden-lighting-bundles).

Wondered if anyone can share experiences / pitfalls and any suggestions for the best way to get set up. As well as the best lights from their selection!

Our garden is approx. 15 long & 10m wide but that includes a single garage and shed...

Thanks in advance.

Looks almost identical to Luxform stuff, which I have used. It was simple, reliable and effective. The only “gotcha” was don’t do it in the cold as the clips have the pierce the wire - which is hard going on winter. Plan it well and use the bigger transformers / thicker cables and it gives you greater expand ability in the future.

I've got some of these in the garden. Simple to install and connect up, but as Podie says, plan it well, get a bigger transformer than you think you need, so that you can add stuff later if needed. Choose the cable and install it wisely so that you can install the lights where you want them and adjust/add later. With this kit you don't need to pierce the cable as Podie suggested, its all screw together connectors.

You can buy it elsewhere and just pick the cables, transformer and lights you want, don't have to but it in a full kit that is in your link. We have some spot lights, fairly lights and decking lights.

Similar concept - but with a higher price tag from what I can see.

Absolutely brilliant stuff. Installed it at my place and parents' garden too. Am running spike lights, downlighters and (over Christmas) the fairy lights with a daylight timer.

Not when compared like for like - The Arcus 12 light bundle is £574 and the Logoglo equivalent is £599 but includes more cable, tools and two flood lights. I'd say that was competitive

They look like good kits, shame its only a spotlight or mini flood option though, would be good to have a pillar light option in the mix & match as well.

Without sounding to thick, does anyone know what the "Key Fob" is?

What are the benefits of this over a standard wired system? Lack of regs ti adhere to?

Techmar does not use that, it's a nice screw 2 pin prong

Very happy with it, some bits can be bought at Toolstation

Not any more it would seem.

Do the transformers need to be kept indoors?

Hmmm just quickly priced up Techmar (the kits mentioned seem VERY expensive)

All prices rounded up and no remotes

Transformer £25
4 way Splitter £10
10m cable 4 connectors £27 x 2
5m cable £7 x 6
Spike lights £15 x 8

Total £251

You can argue whether the quantities are right smile

Are you referring to Toolsation still selling it ?

No, I built a little house out of decking to keep the worst off it (it's been outside for about 2 years)

Don't know for sure but possible an on/off solution where the kit may not be on a switched circuit

Thanks very much everone. I really appreciat the replies.

I have listed/worked out the sort of stuff I want from my garden lighting and it comes to about £400... there are probably too many lights in there so I will now mull it over for a few weeks before I do anything!

Interestingly I thought I'd need the 150w transformer - turns out nowhere near that!

Bought from the place the OP linked to, they were really helpful in sense checking my plans for the right cabling etc.

We went with the Alder spotlights and Remiz wall lights on the fencing. The cabling is small enough to hide between the featherboard and posts, and overall it was really easy to install. The remote control unit works well from inside the house. Basically.... we love them!

Was about to start ordering some of this this week, thanks to the OP!

One thing I wondered was the lumens output of the lights-they all seem a bit weedy? Can anyone who's fitted tell me if the lights genuinely light up the place?

Hey!

Funnily enough, we've just finished installing our lights this week (the garden took a LOT longer than planned!).

Just the decking lights to go. All lights in these pics are 2w. Try and ignore the school.

That looks nice, you should be pleased with yourself!

What are they like when it’s pitch black? All the photos I’ve seen seem to be at dusk which is why I’m a little concerned about their power-we live in the countryside with no street lamps.
