my single paned 3 bed draughty old house with gas central heating and HW quotes said i could save £500 a year simply because of the gas unit price of bulb compare to octopus - my electricity hardly moves month to month cost wise.
i think if you have a very well insulated home and low gas usage then yeah, dont bother.
plus with no tie in fee, if its working out as rubbish, switch again....
£500 is just a few quid more than the gas bill for the year, also for 3 beds.i think if you have a very well insulated home and low gas usage then yeah, dont bother.

It would have to be a large difference for me to switch from Bulb. I just love their no-nonsense approach to everything and single tariff.
What would you say would be a large difference ? I'm looking again now and it's coming out at £120/year if I get one of comparison sites to do it, upto about £175 if I do it myself.I've just changed mine last night. The Meerkat said it could not do it and that I'd have to do it myself. Well, it's not hard. All I did was type in exactly the same information into the new provider's website as you would into a switching site. Plus you don't get a fluffy Meerkat either now so there's even less reason to use them.

There's an article in Monday's Telegraph business section about Bulb. Basically says they are charging customers less than the wholesale price for energy, also adding customers fast, and so it's not sustainable.
No reason not to take advantage while it lasts though
Interesting. How do the float that even fair short term? We're currently £120 in the red, about a month usage, but presumably most are in the black which is good. No reason not to take advantage while it lasts though
Bulb really annoy me.
Most months I'll submit a meter reading (elec only) but occasionally I forget or I'm away and they estimate the reading. This is always far more than I've used. They then increase the direct debit to cover the higher estimated reading.
I then have to go in to my account, submit the actual reading and change the DD back to what it was before.
Tried discussing it on the phone but no joy.
I'd move but they are the cheapest tariff for me according to the comparison sites.

When Bulb have estimated my readings they have managed to do it with staggering accuracy.
Their marketing has really started to annoy me. They send you emails that look like they are aimed at, and written by, a 2 year old.
And their prices are not at all competitive. They give you a yearly projection and it was exactly the same as the switching sites. Even Eon was coming out £100+ cheaper.

Got my gas and electric bill for Jan. 155 quid ! That's about 25pc more than I have ever paid at the time of year. I'll be moving now no doubt about it.
So have you actually used more?Is it correction for underpaid months.
Your post doesn't really tell us what has actually happened

Haven't calculated whether we've used any more but everything has remained as it has in years gone by. The most I've ever paid in the depths of winter was about 110/120 a month. To get a bill for 155 is a bit of a shock. Especially with a smart meter where I've been keeping an eye on daily usage. Is it correction for underpaid months.

I'd also be interested to know who to jump to.
I thought bulb were the “one” to switch to, has this changed? I switched from British Gas to bulb in November.
Customer service isn’t what I’ve come to expect, the few times I’ve had to ring them it’s been around 60 minutes till I actually end up speaking to someone, adding to this I’ve supplied meter readings twice but it’s taking going on 2 weeks for my account to take these into account, in contrast I suppler U.U my water meter reading and had a new bill the next day.

Looking for energy companies for our new build, Bulb seem decent on the comparison sites.. But the recent posts on here doesn't seem so positive?
Comparing prices for me means I'm staying with them.As for the dubious estimates they make I just make sure I stay on top of submitting my own readings now and if they increase your DD you can go to the website and decrease it.
Depends how much potential hassle you want for any potential savings over other providers.
