Hi all, hopefully this is the right section- I'm interested in the car linked below and wanted some opinions/check I'm not missing anything too obvious.

Initial conversions the seller made clear the condensers need replacing and that its "had some paintwork" (no accident damage) which I'll investigate further on inspection. The gearbox was replaced due to whine, not sure if this is common? Should I be checking the engine- boroscope or rev range check? It's a good 3+ hrs from me so trying to get as much of an idea as possible before viewing.

Cheers

Porsche 911 996 3.4 C2 manual coupe.
Factory fitted extras include.
030 lowered sports suspension
18" turbo hollow spoke wheels
LSD/ switchable traction control
Sports seats not currently fitted but are included.
Also fitted with the Aero body kit same thats found on the GT3 model.

Mot till April 2020 with no advisory's for the past 2 years.

Comes with a full service history 18 stamps in the book.
Last serviced with Millers Nanodrive 10/50 as recommended by Hartec
Recent big spends have been new clutch & rear wheel bearings £4500
Replacement water pump £1500
IMS/RMS have both been replaced during my ownership last year, The same time a rebuilt Gearbox was fitted.
New disc & Pads last year, and 2 new rads fitted this year,

Please keep in mind this is a old car but on saying that its only had 2 previous owner before me, not bad for a 20 year old Porsche.
On saying that it polishes up nicely as the photos show and apart from the air con everything works as it should.

I wouldn't worry too much about paintwork, the nose of a 911 tends to pick up stone chips. Agree on the pricing, my water pump was supplied and fitted for around £200 or so by a good indi

I’m keeping an eye on what comes up for sale myself and spotted this as it’s in the area I grew up in and where my siblings still live.

Think there’s lower mileage and better serviced 996.1 for sale out there but guess the GT3 kit is a big draw for this one

As a 98 996,1 aero owner I would add from my own experiences as follows.
Ask if it has had any suspension work like coffin arms, toe and drop links and lolipops recently. A 996 at this mileage an age should have had by now and a decent bargaining point and expensive if you need to pay somebody to do it.
Inner faces of rear discs corrode on an otherwise good looking disc from the front, ask if they have been done recently.(scrap that states done.) Agree some of them quoted costs are plain daft. If he has paid that then glad I spanner myself lol
Read the extensive "What is an early 3.4 thread" some really useful info in there. General opinion is the early 3.4 with dual row IMS is pretty much the safest M96 engine you can buy. It has its faults but if its got to this mileage then should be fine.
They are great cars an early C2, I love mine despite the fair bit of tinkering to keep it sweet. Bought my 70K mile car last year for a bit more than that one as advertised for.

Condensers are 40 each and easy diy. Just get it gassed up after.

I’ve got that saved in my Facebook items for sale (I’m not going to buy it, I just want to see if/when it sells).
On the face of it it looks ok, but it’s only really (potentially) good value if you want the aerokit. The LSD will be worn by now and no it’s not usual (but not unknown) for the gearbox to go.
Replacing the IMS bearing in situ when it doesn’t need doing is generally (but not universally) accepted as risky and pointless, but if it’s survived the change he probably got away with it.
I’d be interested in whether the LSD, suspension and aerokit are original and reflected in the option codes. Does that matter to you?
I’m also a bit snobbish about cars only advertised on Facebook (haven’t seen it anywhere else), but I feel the same about eBay so I’m probably out of touch!

Good luck if you do view. Chris Denning is the local specialist (Cardiff) not sure if he does inspections. Another option is The Ramp Room in Cwmbran, who do, but I’ve no experience of them.
