Daily grind consists of catching the pendelinos.

fking disgrace here right now. Too many people, too few carriages. It's obvious that the system is broke.

I don't give a toss about standing, I'm 38 and in reasonable shape. It's the kids, elderly and the lack of fking oxygen. And where is the aircon?

Yet the motorist pays and pays and naturally due to the ever increasing tax and cost on vehicle transport. Its clear they are trying to force us onto public transport.

At what point do we say. Its fked...?

Be glad you're not on a Northern rail train, Virgin are pretty much the best.

You sound like company director material. Trains are meant for single mums and the infirm as you are finding out. You need to be in First class or pounding the M6, dominating lane 3 in an Audi. Your time will come.

Did you get a reserved seat and was there somebody sitting in when you got on?

Virgin West Coast Pendolino,

1st class - great. Plenty of room, OK-ish food, comfy.

Standard class - ste. Cramped seats that many people don't fit in properly, if you can even get a seat at all.

Answer: make sure your employer will pay for 1st, or move to a job that will.

You should try the Siemens class 700 trains run by Govia Thameslink. Ironing board seats designed for children and no legroom. Standing up is preferable if travelling for any distance.

Well I for one will say well done to the OP, it takes big kahunas to come on here and let everyone know that at 38 you’ve still not had sex with a lady, good on you, wait until you find the right one, although to be fair, standing on a train full of them won’t really be helping, also explains the big kahunas.............

.....oh, sorry, it’s a train company, my bad.......I don’t use public transport, it always seems it will be overcrowded and full of angry people....

Are you going to sit in the doorway film a video about how sad it is that you can't get a seat and then cry about data protection when Richard Branson releases the CCTV footage of you walking past the seats on your way to said doorway?

And that would fix what exactly? - not like nationalised industry is exactly fiscally responsible....

I'm a contractor and too tight to pay for first. Even though I am on decent day rate. Could expense it also.

Been doing this for years and ain't got a clue what's on offer in first.

What if you don't get a seat in first class? Is it back to my usual cattle class in standard?

I keep thinking first class is full of Remain voters, don't see many coloured people like me in there. Will I be safe?

Oh no... I used that term beginning with C.

..

Leamington to Wolverhampton. And then back. The route is royally fked

Birmingham new street is diabolical. That's where the mayhem starts. And then you have the cheap holiday lot who think it's wise to carry trunks on a rammed train from Birmingham International.

Well, there'd have been about £600M more in the pot to pay for better trains / more trains / cheaper tickets...

Very true, sadly.

Aside from the uncomfortable seats with less padding than the trains they replaced, the 700s have fewer tables (which given how many commuters use laptops or have coffees seems an oversight for a train supposedly designed for commuter lines), and have fewer charging points (again, something of an oversight on a supposed commuter train).

And the much vaunted "completely walk through" design? Great, now the whole train can hear the unruly children or drunk, boorish adults.

But what about the information screens, you ask? Being told there is a good service on the Piccadilly Line as I am on way home from London somehow fails to take the edge off the backache (assuming I have got a seat).

The DfT has managed, at great expense, to procure something that is newer but is actually less good for the people that use it.

I dont use trains to often. When I do I pay for the first class train with Virgin there is usually a deal somewhere or other. Much better, get a coffee and bite to eat etc.

I get terrible travel sickness on the Pendolino trains. It's mainly the tilting, but I also feel that they just go too fast. I'd trade 20-30 minutes on the time just to not ruin my day.

I go 1st class, and the breakfast is not bad. Otherwise, the only real point is that you do at least get a seat. Forget wifi as it's practically useless.

I pay for my own travel for business and I always pay the extra for first, usually £50 a ticket. Some of the other contractors on my project refuse and even catch the 10pm train home to save £30 on peak travel. Complimentary breakfast served in the morning, glass of wine or two on the way back. Mostly normal people too...

£207 return first class, about £160ish standard peak and £140 if you don't mind getting home at 1am

No discounts for booking in advance, in fact the price is usually higher.
