More depressing than a London flat?

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a Not Depressing tickbox in rightmove so unable to go through the 1000's of available properties.

I guess everyone on PH, moved out of their parents house at 18, and moved into a £400K property in a 'nice area'. rolleyes

I love PH, but the snobbishness that pervades certain forums is rather unpleasant.

I agree, it isn't too pleasant but could you imagine living here: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prop...

This might come as a surprise, but you are allowed to completely renovate, modernise and alter the inside of a house that you own.

Completely agree with the poster saying that there are some snobs on here. Pathetic snobs.

One mans rubbish is another mans treasure. Any place can be improved with a bit of imagination.

You can play the selective links game all day. But the comments from a previous poster about where are all these £120K houses. Shows them to be at a complete disconnect with reality.

I lived somewhere very much like that for two years whilst at university, albeit on the other side of Nottingham. Whilst I wouldn't choose to do so again, it was OK; certainly plenty of people live in far worse places.

I agree with the comment above that the snobbishness displayed by a significant minority on PH when it comes to this sort of thing is deeply unpleasant.

I was told that if I searched outside of London at major cities that I would find loads of houses for £120k. So I did. Obviously I searched cities that were expensive, but these are still places where people need to live, so no, I dont see this disconnect?

You also seem to think that i live in London, nope never, but I have visited a couple of times. Same for Oxford and Cambridge.

When I left home as my parents were moving away I rented a terraced house in Cardiff for a while. It had NO beating when I moved in then I got a gas fire downstairs and an electric 2 bar heater for my bedroom. It was so cold that winter I had ice on the inside of my bedroom window. In the mornings I would lean out of bed and flick the heater on. After 5/10 minutes there’d be about a square metre in front of it that was bearable. Add to this I had to strip wash in the kitchen in lieu of a shower or bath because there wasn’t a bathroom. The toilet was outside and that froze solid too.

I’m sure my parents expected me to give up and move with them. Incredible when I think back, that house wasn’t fit for human habitation. Think it’s a takeaway now.

Where did I state I thought you were from London?

You don't have to be from there to be disconnected from the reality of 90% of the housing market.

Just about to buy a second home.

Sounds decadent?

It's actually our 3rd house, because we have a BTL too.

The BTL is a long term plan which pays off mortgage before I'm 65. My idea was that it would be a steady income after that.

This second home we are intent on buying?

We own our small semi in a nice part of North Miseryside. The only reason to live there is my wife's family.

For 10 years I've worked further south
Derby, stoke, and Wolverhampton
Mostly Derby.

So we are buying a house near the A50

Our budget was 120k.....

You can get a house in Stoke for 60k but as you get further away 120k is about the minimum for a terrace that isn't a restoration project.

We ended up falling for a house which is above the budget by 50k and will cost 10k to buy, plus deposit.
Problem.costs are extra stamp.duty and a full.survey as the house is 130 years old and has alot of history. Plus we have no furniture for said house.

I dont know. They've been polishing turds for years down south, or gentrification as they call it. Seems to work looking at the house prices down there.

I stated that I thought he was from London. He’s probably going to turn out to be from Surrey, just outside the M25 or something equally close to London. His choice of cities was deliberate to pick those with as much chance of possible fo proving his stuck up point. Most people would select one of the large cities, such as Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Bristol, rather than smaller ones with arguably the most global reach outside London due to the universities.

Obviously I chose those 2 cities to prove a point. People still need to live there though. And what is it that makes me stuck up? You seem to have a real issue with this and I have no idea why.

Also where I live makes no difference to any of this, but if it helps you, I live almost 100 miles north of London and this is the closest that I have ever come to living there.
