We've got a whole kitchen worth of matching Neff appliances and quite frankly I'm pretty unimpressed with their longevity. They are all around 6 years old and every appliance has failed at some point, the worst being a combi microwave that has completely rusted through with holes in it and an induction hob that has had 2 zones go bang and fail. I get the impression they are engineered to see them through their warranty period and not much further, despite being pretty expensive.

If Bosch/Siemens/Neff are all ruled out, which brands are the next best? Miele?

I think Miele are your best bet.

Someone will be along shortly to tell you that even they build down to a price now, albeit a bigger one.

I've got Hotpoint appliances, I've had one fan motor go at 5 years on the oven, and that's it. It was a fairly simple fix. Considering the cost of Neff or other such premium brands, if I'd binned the oven, I could have bought another and still end up with change from buying a Neff or Miele which id expect through form or fashion would give around 10-12 years service before the user needed or wanted to update it.

I'm an uncomplicated mid range kind of guy, so go for bosch.

Modern white goods are terrible imo, I work on keeping (almost) the cheapest washing machine and when replacing (with almost the cheapest) they can take the old (?) one with them.

Contrast that to the Sanyo microwave my mum bought me for when I was a student back in 1992, works fine, it has needed a new light bulb (less than a tenner)

You do see that comment quite a bit about Miele these days. I think a lot of people think they're guaranteed for 10yrs but that applies to very few of their appliances.

We buy mid-price Bosch (sometime Neff versions) across our family. Must admit I was a bit astonished the £600 Neff integrated dishwasher we bought recently had a plastic interior. It replaced a 20yr old "Hotpoint" that was made by Bosch for Hotpoint that still worked but was becoming increasingly noisy. The difference in weight between the two machines was ridiculous, the Neff is so flimsy you can almost wobble it, and it doesn't clean or dry quite as well as the old one.

I buy Bosch, too. Aiming for five trouble free years and not too complicated.

That said, the washing machine must have fifteen wash settings I have never used.

We had a Siemens oven and induction hob (upper range ones). Both failed just outside warranty, Siemens not interested. I will never buy Siemens / Neff / Bosch ever again as a result (very short sighted of them). Buy Miele stuff now, it’s in a different league altogether.

Our 14yr old Miele washing machine replaced a worse than useless Hotpoint machine, it's MUCH heavier & as a result is much quieter.

We had a Bosch dishwasher for about 14yrs, sold it in perfect working order & replaced it with a Miele (for aesthetic reasons only).

Our Bosch fridge freezer is less than 10yrs old, pretty sure it's not right as it seems to run far too long & now it's rusting along the bottom of the door & around the bottom hinge, will look to replace it with a Miele when it finally dies.

hehe

I saw the title and my deffo answer was going to be Neff. Then I saw OP's comment.

I just moved out of my 21 year old house & all the Neff appliances were still working perfectly.

The weight of them has virtually nothing to do with how much noise it makes.

That is all down to the sound insulation and motor design.

The reason they are so heavy is they use cast iron, rather than concrete in the drum balancing.

Panny microwave - seem to last forever, until you throw them out for a new model
Miele dishwasher - 7 years easy so far
Smeg fridge freezer, 12 years so far but all the plastic baskets crack and are hundreds of pounds to replace
Smeg oven - repaired every 3-4 years over 12 years so far
hotpoint washer - cheapest model, lasted 10 years for £300, bought another on offer for £250...bargain
hotpoint dryer - cheapest model, 12 years in, has had a new belt, DIY fit, still going strong

Sometimes buying the cheaper mainstream stuff for a few hundred quid pays off, if you dont need any of the fancy features. I really dont get spending £1500 on equivalent top end stuff and trying to get 10 years out of it. You could buy 4 generic models for that and may get 10 years out each with a bit of luck.

Another boscher here. Can usually be repaired if it does go wrong and if not then it's not cost a fortune anyway.

LG American Fridge lasted 12 years. Only got rid because of new kitchen.
Hotpoint washing machine. Lasted 9 years. Got rid to get a bigger one.
Hotpoint Tumble dryer. 8 years. Replaced under the recall where they set fire. Ours was still fine.
Hotpoint Single oven. Lasted 10 years. Replaced heating element twice and a couple of bulbs.
Dishwasher was 9 years old. Cheap make no idea what it was, Replaced when we got a new kitchen.
Kids are 10 and 13 so washer and dryer were used loads.

Had our current Hotpoint washing machine since 2016 and Dryer since 2015.

Parents spent a lot on renovating their kitten

https://www.subzero-wolf.co.uk/

They have Wolf standalone cookers and subzero fridge freezer plus Miele standard double oven.
I don’t think they got much change out of £35k for the ovens job coffee machine fridge freezer. But it’s stunning and will never wear out in their use.

I’d not dream of spending that much £5-7k max

I've always used and recommended Bosch appliances and never had cause to regret it.

I have a Neff dishwasher in a rental house, that I presume doesn’t necessarily get treated well.

It’s 23 years old now and as far as I know, has never had any issues.....
