I assume you have already tried it out?

I threw one of those out as it was way too hot even in winter. Mine was pure memory foam though and I think the new ones are better. Replaced it with one of these which we’ve had for about 12m and thoroughly recommend.

Ideally you want a mixture of pocket sprung and foam. Pure foam is a nightmare.

we tried one out in the shop, it was weird and we felt seasick. The slow sinking in was very strange and trying to turn over was difficult. we ended up going for a very firm mattress that we definitely sleep on rather than in. the shop guy said you either love them or hate them.

Yes I’ve had one for 2 years, easily the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever had, I used to get back pain but no longer.

I used to get very hot in bed even with a feather duvet but no longer, now it’s just comfort.

My parents also bought one, my step dad would wake up 5-6 times a night but doesn’t anymore

Overall they are great and well worth the money

Same. We tried dozens when we bought our new bed a couple of weeks ago. The Tempur felt utterly peculiar and I didn't like it at all - just moving around on it or trying to get off it was quite a strange sensation and required a surprising amount of effort.

We went for a firm pocket sprung one with a sort of built in feather-filled topper. It was quite dear but really comfortable.

Try John Ryan by Design. Lovely mattresses to suit most budgets.

Basically this.

Absolutely love ours, zero issues with heat, wife could get a sore back, not any more.

Got the pillows too. They're also fab.

I understand they're love or hate, but we truly love ours.

Went to a decent John Lewis and another bed centre place and spent a full day looking at the options and spending a decent amount of time trying each one.

Isnt or wasn't "Ergoflex" the PH memory foam mattress of choice? less than half the price of Tempur and st hot?

(We have two and they are excellent to be fair, sure the recommendations came from PH).

Memory foam is very Marmite - I hate the stuff, brother loves it. I just have an ancient double with an Ikea mattress topper and a goose down duvet from soak & sleep. Suits me perfectly.

We debated a temper 2mths agonand weren’t keen on spunking £2k on a mattress we weren’t sure we’d like.

We instead bought a nectarsleep matress that comes with a 365 day full money back guarantee ... 1mth that went back as it was like sleeping on rocks

It was then repacked with a Silentnight Geltex Ultra 3000 which is very good / very comfy

Thanks to a similar thread on PH a few years back I got a John Ryan.

Chatted to them on the phone and they were very helpful.

Lying on it now. Great mattress.

Hate Tempur.
Spunked over £1600 on one and it was rock hard. Didn’t sleep for days until we bought a mattress topper for it which defeats the object a bit.

Buy online and NOT in store as some store policies don’t allow returns whereas distance selling regs force them to accept a return.

I have had one for 6 years. Very comfortable.

You used to be able to get them vat free if you had medical issues with your back.

Pay someone else to take them up your stairs, they weigh a ton.

I hate buying a new mattress, they are so subjective. In the shops they feel different as they could be brand new or jumped all over, laying on one for 1 minute is also totally different to sleeping on one.

I went for one of the top end hypnos and it really is lovely. the temper felt too firm for me and i was worried about the heat. They must be good though as so many love them.

We bought three memory foam matts. 2/3 of us hate them. The other likes it. I think it's about whether one is a back or a side sleeper. When I am on my back it's ok, on my side tit's too hard.

You can spend as long as you like getting your dirty shoes on John Lewis's test mattresses, you never really know till you own one.

Furthermore, I have previously bought matts from expensive shops, only to find that my mattress performs differently from the demo one.

We'll probably go back to springs soon.

Love ours, it's our second one, been sleeping on Tempur for 17 yrs now, pretty much can't abide anything else.

However, if you do get one expect to spend the first 4-6 weeks thinking you bought the worst mattress in the world; they take getting used to & the memory foam needs to 'relax'. Same goes for the pillows.

Have no sleep issues, I'm a 'side sleeper' , missus is a 'back sleeper'. Don't find them too hot, or too cold.

Also the memory foam does tend to get less flexible if it's cold.

We got a medium Tempur mattress, which is a bit closer in firmness to a normal one and doesn't mould around you so much. My wife raves about it and it has made a world of difference to her back and neck. She also has a Tempur pillow.

There are lots of different options to choose from. The heat thing has never been an issue, even during the heatwave last summer. We've definitely found it's worth the investment, and you have the guarantee if it doesn't work out.

It’s a completely personal thing. The finest I’ve experienced are Savoir Beds, one of the best investments I’ve ever made.

Can’t speak for their mattresses but I recently - through gritted teeth and crying all the way to the tills - spent £85 on a Tempur pillow and I’ve never slept better than I have since I got it.
