Currently have the Eufy 30c but I think we need to change. It's great at what it does, but we've just had a new dining table delivered and it now manages to get stuck between the chair legs.

While I'm looking, I seem to recall some of them could detect dog mess and avoid rather than smear it around. Our dog was ill recently and it was only by good fortune that the hoover had done it's daily clean before it happened. God knows what the house would have looked like if it had been the other way round yuck

Is there a hoover that can avoid such a thing or did I dream it?!
Looks like this is the one you want:

Thanks and sorry for not noticing your reply earlier.

I've been having a look and the J series doesn't seem to have the same suction as the S does - although the video says the double brush makes up for it. There are few posts suggesting the S series might be getting the same AI soon, so I could wait and see what happens. But waiting isn't really my thing!

Hmm, decisions...

I used man maths to justify that - Coming home to find there's dog mess smeared all round the house, in the kitchen and bedrooms etc would mean more of an inconvenience than the money it cost to hopefully avoid such a situation..

I have had the j7+ now for around 2 weeks. Myself and wife were very sceptical about it, however we are really impressed with how clean its keeping the ground floor. Our kitchen is around 40m2 and it takes about 50min to cover the place. Have setup maps now so its scheduled to go and do different rooms throughout the week. We have a dog and 3 kids and its picking up all the crumbs really well, and even gets into the plinths on the kitchen. I wouldn't get one for a carpeted floor to be honest as I'm not sure how much of a deep clean it would give, but for tiled and wooden floors its great.

After the success of Dave the Mow, started to have a think about a robot vac /mop.
i have found the roomba combo Mop vac system which seems the way to go, based on the downstairs being a mix of wooden floors and carpet. However what i'd like to understand is just how well the systems handle chairs ? We've a kitchen /diner setup - hardwood floowrs, and i wonder how it would cope with the dinning table and chairs and also the breakfast bar stools . can it get in between everythign, or are we going to have to get the vac out to do 'patches'

I guess this is also a downstairs only toy ?

^ ours just bumps around everywhere it can fit.

It gets used daily to pick up the usual daily crumbs, dog hair etc. I'm tempted to upgrade to one of the mop type ones but not sure I can justify it.

I also use my Eufy upstairs occasionally and it's fine, but not as good as a real hoover on carpet. It's still finds enough dust etc to fill its bucket.

One of the reasons for the change from the Eufy to the Roomba was it's scanning and mapping. The Eufy now fitted perfectly between the legs of the new chairs we have and would get stuck. The last chairs must have been a touch wider and it would free itself after doing a Austin Powers kinda about turn!

Another reason for the Roomba, it empties itself.

My Irobot S9+ is very good at getting around my three kitchen breakfast bar stools, but that of course comes down to the fact that it can actually fit between the 4 legs. Anything it can fit around/between, the tech etc is very good at making sure it gets pretty much everywhere.

I'm considering a robot vacuum but not sure where to begin.

It would be used to cover downstairs (approx 80sqm) of mostly Karndean flooring, but has a few rugs and one room is carpeted. No pets but had a toddler. Lack of time and ability to pick up dust and crumbs reguarly make one appealing.

Ideally I want one that will do the job at night relatively quietly, but where i could also target specific rooms. I also dont want one that bumps into everything and can navigate bar stools, kitchen chairs and rugs without getting stuck.

The irobot roomba i7 looks like a decent mid range option. But is that more than I need? And is automatic emptying useful or a gimic?

I have this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/iRobot%C2%AE-Roomba%C2%AE...

It's awesome. Way too noisy to run at night without noticing though. It navigates barstools, coffee tables etc.
Auto emptying is also awesome.

Might be too pricey for what you want though?

Sounds perfect, but yes much more than I want to pay!

I don't think you can go wrong with an Eufy model, I've found their customer service spot on when I've needed them as well.

My Eufy has had its first major breakdown - one of the drive wheel motors has died. Tested etc, need to pick up a motor at some point. I've ordered a 35 quid cheap replacement off Livingsocial until I can track down another motor.

New to this but wife has decided she wants one.

Budget of £300 ish

Mostly laminate and Lino, transition from kitchen to dining room and kitchen to hall is about half an inch but sloped so assuming that won’t be an issue?
