Im a bad boy, i know, but please spare the lectures.

How many people actually resit the test after a ban? Mine is finished in 3 weeks and unclear if i get full licence. Charge sheet never said i did but not sure.

Thanks 🙏🏾

Depends on your age and what the court have stipulated, as I understand it.

Give DVLA a call in the morning, I'm sure they will confirm either way.

I got banned for dangerous driving in 1996 and it wa stipulated that I had to do a retest ,
So all I got back was a provisional , did an extended test (for a car) and then got my full licence back , including my motorbike licence .

IIRC you only need to resit a test for very specific circumstances, or if the court directs it as part of your sentencing.

You don't have to resit a test after a normal drink drive ban or totting up ban. You do have to resit a test if you lose your license as a result of accruing 6 points within your first two years of driving. If your case wasn't the latter, then the court should have told you if you had to sit a test to get your license back.

There is a difference between a driving ban and your license being revoked.

Likewise, too long for most speeding offences but too short for DUI?

A retest is mandatory for some offences and discretionary for others. If you were banned for drink driving then it’s extremely unlikely that a discretionary retest was ordered. If you were banned for dangerous driving then an extended retest is mandatory.

A friend of mine got a years ban for dangerous years ago and was required to take a retest, he was almost tempted not to bother and to give up driving. Then just recently he changed jobs and was given basic background check. 'I'm fine' he though, 'rehabilitation of offenders act mean it'll be ignored.' But then he got letter from whoever it is that did the check wanting proof that he had passed a retest. Fortunately he had done.

Drink driving bans start at 12 months so very possible.

I may be wrong, but don't you have to apply for your licence?

In other words, it doesn't come through automatically.

You don't need to re-test if you get banned for DUI.

Speaking from experience (close friend - not me, honest!!!!)

My bet would be dangerous drivng?

Just to be clear you did not have to take your motorbike test again then? Just the extended test and then you got both car and Motorcycle full licences back?

Yep! If a ban is over so long (three months rings a bell?) You'll need to apply for it again. Unless the courts have said, you won't need to take a retake.

Less than 56 days and there is no need to reapply for your licence, over that and the appropriate application needs to be sent to the DVLA.

If it was second time in ten years it would be a three year ban, not 12 months. Second time in over ten years and it would revert back as if it was a first offence (I think..)
