I reckon we overpaid for our house, it was nearly 4 years ago though and good houses were selling before they hit Rightmove so we paid full asking.

On reflection I should have made them a nasty offer because they were in a tight spot but, given the market, they may have easily found someone a day later ready to pay full dollar, so I made peace with it.

And as others have said, given time, itll be a bump in your financial history.

We over paid by £5k. At the last valuation it was valued at what we paid for it, so in 2 years we have our money back on paper. Would it sell for that, or more? Who knows. And it is a question I will not be able to answer for 5 years so *shrug*.

Put an offer in that was too high, the mortgage valuation came back 10% shy. We couldn't make the numbers work without going to a too poor ltv and the seller wouldn't move. Had to pull out.

Living with the OP, I'd imagine the cat has topped itself by now.

That's only because this is the only social life you have.

Come on, cut them some slack!

And to the OP, we got as far as offering the asking on a 'best and final' but lost out to the other sell, in part I think because we where younger buyers. ould have been a nice house, had a lot of things we wanted, but wasnt to be. The sale later fell through but we have found another elsewhere.

On this house we got a 80k down valuation originally, which would have scuppered the job, but fortunately later another lender worked out.
So yeah, that is your only risk, depending on the size of your deposit, is a lender valuation which you cant pay your way out of I guess.

But the less you think of houses and an investment and the more you think of them as somewhere lot live and enjoy the better. Ive certainly paid 20% over the odds for a car because it was the colour and spec I wanted.

Maybe a few grand for mine

We were desperate, other half was pregnant, we were renting and the house we bought was empty, so looked a perfect , it was on for 30 grand a few month before anyway

Actually I dont think I overpaid, I think I could have negotiated it a bit cheaper, but it would involved days of bullst haggling, which I didnt have the time or patience for!

Mortgage and home buyers priced it what we offered so happy days

Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and not worry about money, just concentrate on if you think the price suits you and you are happy

A more sympathetic audience...? hehe

"In a bit of a panic as went a bit crazy today and bought a house within an hour of viewing. On closer reflection i feel like we have maybe paid more than its worth, found a house on the same street with another bedroom for the same price and looks to a good standard, this is a 3 bed. And looking at sold prices doesent fill me with much hope. It was in high demand viewing and interest wise so we wanted to secure it"

"We pulled out of the sale, feel awful but at least it wont have cost them anything in fees yet, went round today to measure up and its a lot smaller than we remembered, and it was an absolute nightmare to pull off the drive, would be even worse if shared access was partially blocked."

As expected in just two days. Local EAs must love him.

You haven't read the thread very well, some parties go on a long time after the host has gone to bed.
