Do I need a Quantity Surveyor?

A QS should also ensure that when the builders ask you for money for completed works, the work has actually been done! This ensures the builder doesn’t get ahead and end up with no money at the end.
They'll probably steer you toward a JCT contract too.A JCT is by no means a guarantee of success, but it sure minimises risk.
If you search UK forums for "builder, left site, overpaid, no contact, building control, issues" you will see there's a whole load of the population who hand over life savings at the drop of a hat. (and that's the ones who are brave enough to post online...)

You joke, but I saw that sketch as a child and it's still how I think of quantity surveyors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnPy9inVnqg

You'll have to get the Q.S to leave his nice warm dry office for that to happen, good luck with that! montecristo said:
