You do have to wonder about all these IoT "security" cameras that are not really secure themselves smile

Sometimes you cant beat a cable.....
Whilst any vulnerability could be a concern, I don't see that one as much of a risk - someone would have needed to have been stood on my driveway and sniffing for unsecured local networks at the precise moment the unit was first configured.

Regardless, it's now been resolved anyway.

The blink cameras look like a great option for me.

There is this package

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Blink-Home-Security-Detec...

Will that do or do I need the external XT2 camera?

Reason I ask is that I’m in a bungalow so the cameras cannot be placed very high but I could place a camera in the front window covering the drive?

Be careful with that - you'll probably find that placing a camera behind glass will result in a huge amount of reflected flare when the infra-red activates.

Ah, good point! Need to think about this.

Also in a bungalow. I have external CCTV cameras mounted about 7ft or so up and the field of view is fine. The best security in some ways is visible, all well and good having video after the fact but if they see you’re more hassle than you’re worth they’ll move on, in theory, it doesn’t always work that way of course but you catch the meaning I’m sure.

That makes sense. I’m out at the moment so will take a look at the house later and make the decision.

The XT2 cameras do look the right fit for me.

I don't think the Blink cameras work through glass in terms of motion detection.

Great news that you managed to interrupt them.

We have a Ring door bell and unfortunately I have a OnePlus 5T, basically its pretty much useless. None of the notifications work on my phone. I installed the door bell last month and was hoping a re-install of the app would do the job. Turns out it won't. Going to get OH's Huawei added to the account and hopefully that will work and at least one of us will get the notifications on their phone when someone is trying to break in etc etc.

A mate of mine is a copper and he had a stint on the local burglary investigation team. Many of them case out the houses and wear the appropriate hoodie etc etc so the CCTV is useless. In some cases, house owners have for near by who race round and make a noise and off they go. In other cases, people call the police and expect instant response when you house is being burgled and of course the response is slow and the house is ransacked and even the CCTV has been taken including the Ring Door Bell.

We will probably add some XT2s from Amazon next year, but not convinced it will do an awful lot. In fact I'd be amazed if they work with our rubbish wifi.

If you have an Amazon Echo or Google Home device you can set them to notify you as well, we have the integration setup so it notifies us only for when someone rings the bell but you can have it set to notify for motion as well. If you have any of the video enabled ones you can get it to show you as well you can also answer it on the the speaker only devices, handy but you can’t see them obviously.

In the example someone makes off with the ring it does upload it’s video to the cloud and if you have a crime ref Ring will replace it foc. The cloud based sub stuff is handy in that regard. Cameras for me as set to sync to my NAS but I am thinking of replacing them as the new Ring cams or XT2s are very good and cloud syncing them works better for me.

We got the same deal (x2) - deployed the second one at an elderly relatives today. Note it ONLY works with 2.4Ghz wifi (which did stump me for a bit - hadn't clocked their older route was set to 5 !). Then had some oddities getting the second and third camera, but got there in the end.

Still think it is a reasonable system for the money: we now have eyes & ears on the elderly relative from a distance (*cough* with their full agreement!)

Decent? Hmm...

Depends on your expectations really. I would say they are ok. Video quality is ok (not good or great by any means). Battery life is pretty good (ignore the 2 year claims, in reality expect 6 months max). They are very easy to setup, and the app is easy to use.

All in all I would say they are worth the money, but dont get them expecting anything amazing.

Got mine set up this morning. Talks to my phone, my Echo Plus and my Echo Show and was so easy.

Really happy with it as a simple deterrent and a way to keep an eye on things at all times.
