These new fancy memory foam mattress

We've had a SK Tempur for getting of for 10 years. Worth every single penny! We both sleep like logs and it's definitely helped MrsLotusMartins back pain.

They're certainly not for everyone but you just need to go lie on a load and see what suits you.

I will buy another Tempur for sure soon.

I tried Tempur and a couple of other memory foam ones and like people say here I found them far too hot. I bought a Kaymed gel one in the end and it’s super comfy and cool because it dissipates the heat. 25 year guarantee when I bought mine and no need my turn

That's what we bought. No issues with feeling hot.

Have you ever stayed in a Travelodge or Premier Inn, what did you think of their bed? They both sell their mattresses. Mrs Benrad and I love Travelodge beds so bought one of their mattresses a couple of years ago. It's fantastic and unlike others you can actually test it for a full night or two, and may already have done so!

We've had a Tempur mattress for the past 12 years or so. My only issue is getting too hot in the winter which seems bizarre but is probably due to having a winter duvet with quite a high tog rating.

Anyway last week SWMBO demanded it was time for a new mattress so off we go to Dreams. Long story short ended buying another Tempur mattress but this time the Cooltouch which is supposed to dissipate the heat.

It's due to be delivered on Thursday so I'll let you know next week

A tangent, but... I bought a top end Relyon mattress a few years ago. Spring pocketed with topper. Probably the best £1200 ever spent. Comfortable beyond words.

Ones with a layer of cooling gel on the top make a difference, especially in summer.
I've been using foam mattresses for years...I would never buy a sprung one ever again.

I looked into those and it sounded like they were very comfortable but not designed to last very long, which makes sense given what they're designed for. I don't imagine a hotel has much use for a ten year mattress. Ew.

Had a warren Evans own brand men foam for maybe 13 years now. Not the cheapest but half a tempur. Yes you'll probably want a thick mattress protector as they can be hot, but it still feels like new, has been great for mine and my wife's backs, and whenever we go away wherever we stay and whatever they have even its its damn comfortable, its always a joy to lie back on upon our return, there's something "resetting" about it.

For what it's worth, although I was sceptical about the Leesa Hybrid above, we were happy with it and ended up keeping it. It's comfortable and the concerns I had about it getting too hot turned out not to be valid, as it wasn't a problem even on the hottest nights of the summer.

It's such a personal thing that I think your best bet is to try them out. I don't know if you can go to the stores and sit on them for ten minutes in this current world but you can at least try them at home.

I have a tempur mattress, once I’m used to it I think is it really that good, but as soon as I sleep in any other bed then get back into mine, I really do think, yes this was worth the money.

It’s not like sink in and be cacooned comfortable but it’s like a good pair of shoes. Comfy, very supportive and you never have any pressure points. I’ve never had a bad nights sleep in it, even in those 2 weeks a year where it’s been 30 degrees all day

So to answer my own question. As with everything we had a budget to stick to, as we are also replacing all internal doors in the house.

We wanted to go from double to king. The ottoman storage bed she liked at Next we got straight from the manufacturer saving almost 50%. We got a Dreams Hudson mattress (firm) in their half price sale. A Panda memory foam/gel topper from Costco, and another thick soft topper from Dusk. The packaging got a little damaged in transit and it got a little dirty. An hour in the laundrette sorted that out.

I got up at 7 to get a coffee and let the dog out/up. I’m struggling to get out of it again. It’s so supportive yet soft and cosy. Brilliant.

You still happy with it now nearly 2 years later ?

Currently looking at these Emma and Simba ones but the reviews for both really vary.

Personally speaking, I would never buy another memory foam mattress.

I agree with the numerous others in this thread who have complained they are far too hot.

We have gone back to a 'standard' mattress now and find it much better.

Op, when you say "seem quite expensive" they are far from that. An Emma king is £429 list. A decent sprung will cost well over £1k.

We have a king Relyon that is £1300 list. I get them staff price , but I'd have paid retail if forced. Money well spent. You are spending half your life on it....

Had an Otty, which I didn't find particularly hot, but it was past "firm" and into "hard". Now have a Brook and Wilde Elite in "soft" which I'd say is a medium. A few months in and still happy with it (but if go softer if that was an option).

Yeah, you want something pretty firm and flat, but with a bit of spring to it.

The memory foam just absorbs too much of the impacts and doesn't have the required rebound speed of a traditional pocket spring mattress, plus your hands and knees sink into it too far which makes moving around or changing positions less swift than one would like.

It's like trying to shag while slowly sinking on quicksand.
