Could be asbestos soffits under there that they didn't want to disturb.

Although i have since discovered the plastic fascias around the eaves of the house, are just plastic stuck over rotten wood so needs redone before it all falls off.

the classic light switch in the hall the electrician put too near the architrave after the hall was plastered so the builder just cut out the (original edwardian) architrave and fitted it over the light switch. rolleyes
I had that. The same person fitted the stud wall, the light switch and the architrave. No excuse!

I moved it on to the wall where you might expect a switch to be.

I got left a tv in the spare room. Thoughtful.

Hole the size of tv behind it. Then tv wire extended via dodgy wiring, down hole in wall into cubby hole and hole near plug for the wire to go through. He took the actual plug end with him though. Thanks.

Edit. Come to mention it I'm sure I said about that before.

You must have been to my daughters house then, all the soffits have had to be replaced for the same reason. This done by a guy who looks after rental properties for an estate agent.

The lounge has two doors to it, a light switch at the side of each one, but the ceiling has been replastered after a leak from above, so he plastered over all the holes where the lights used to be and relied on standard lamps or table lamps for illumination.

My father’s favourite bodge was wiring up the christmas lights to the gatepost light via an Edison screw lightbulb and the creative use of Araldite, solder and a piece of wood.
He was a chemical engineer, whom then built a PLC from scratch that made emergency lighting and fire alarms.

Why multi-tool off the piece of wood when you can cut the tiles around it?

Cracking paintwork there too.

I'm not sure why the wood is required at all, why not fit the pole direct to the wall?

Funnily enough I got my money back for this leadwork done by a 'professional' builder

Damn annoying door frames been too wide
That leadwork is diabolically bad. The trouble is most householders have to just trust that what has been done on their roof is sound. Always get photos of the work done at each stage so you can check each step is done how you want it.

Regarding that plasterwork being hacked off... that is blatant vandalism. I have an old house and damage like that is very hard to restore and costs a disproportionate amount of money compared to simply doing the job properly in the first place.

Nice house btw with 12"x12" timber etc. My brother had a similar house with large timbers that had 12"x4" purlins in the roof... lovely to look at a house built like that.

I've discovered (and probably created) a few bodges in my time, but nothing compared to this thread 🤣

When we moved into our 1920s house, there was an electric fire in the lounge. When we removed it, we found a gas fire behind it.

I do enjoy watching Homes under the Hammer when the estate agent says it's been "done to a high standard" then you get the montage of clips that show quite clearly it's been bodged

Pole not long enough so had to be adapted?

Also note the socket which has nearly set the house on fire, connections probably not tight enough or running a cannabis grow 24 hours a day through it.

That is a mains powered aerial distribution amplifier, in a broken bucket on a rooftop of a London hotel.
