Agreed, the soft furnishings are rather twee but easily changed. Nice looking place.

Go near that with a pot of grey paint and you'll be found face down in the pond.

This one comes with a short story.

Back in 2011 My wife was pregnant and we were doing what many other expectant couples would do, getting out of "dodge". We had a two bedroom duplex in the city and wanted more space. I happened upon this place....

Mountain Ave Monotclair

In 2011 it was up for $800k which was a fraction of the price of its neighbours. I would have pushed the matter further with my wife if the schools had been better. Today it is up at $1.75M and the inside hasn't changed. It is still below market value for the area but clearly someone has given up on the project after 10 years which makes me think it is a money pit. I still love it though and would buy it if it was not for those bloomin schools.

Unusually informative & well-researched sales details indicate it's original, too.

I’ve found Knight Frank tend to be pretty good in their research and descriptive text, unlike the majority of EAs

Cracking building, but I hate the location.

...but not for the reasons you might think.

I hate large, comparatively opulent houses nestled in the middle of a normal residential area. For me, it's incongruous and I'd feel like I was sticking out like a sore thumb.

There's a place like that near me. Large mansion, stunning place, and it's literally in the middle of a council estate.
Would sir prefer to have 1000 acres surrounding his home?

Ringland Estate near Norwich, sold recently for about £10 million.

It's about to have a dual carriageway built nextdoor to it (or possibly through it, I can't tell from a quick look) so get ready to get your compo face out...

Lovely. Her old holiday pad is even better, on the river Dart in Devon. National Trust but at least you can stay in a bit of it. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/greenway...

The new ring road will be about 2.4kms away and think it will go through the outer edge of estate farmland.
The land will be subject to a CPO if it hasn't already been done. They may have been waiting until they got planning to start the process.
It'll only make a small dent on the 1000 acres.

Honestly? No.

The large estates with huge amounts of land do nothing for me whatsoever. The Ringland Estate house is pretty cool, with a lot of potential. Give me that with 2-5 acres, and I'd be happy.

My issue above wasn't that there was neighbours close by, but that the house itself, in that location, is very incongruous.

(for context, in case anyone is lost, I was referring to this - https://www.onthemarket.com/details/8286033/ )

Have we had this in Hastings yet?

Quirky, cool, seemingly quite practical - and some awesome history...

I bloody love it.
