I'd take that over the beige place anytime.
Me too. I don't even like the beige place, particularly, I just disagree that it's awful or looks like a travelodge - particularly externally.

THAT'S your takeaway from that place?!

I've never been in a Travelodge but I thought it was extremely predictable and lazy inside and the plot was absolutely tiny. Did nothing for me at all (in case you hadn't guessed wink )

Really keen on this, don’t know much about the area but looks quite a decent location:

All it needs is a little portal frame barn for some toys, and it would be perfect. Mega.

THAT'S exactly the sort of thing I notice. Absolutely valid to pick out.

I happen to like really tall skirting with simple quadrant on top - and have made my own in a couple of rooms. But it's fine to notice detail.

And pass harsh judgement.

That's my kinda place. I really like it.

The OH thinks that style is too doll's house and likes the rambling dark gothic places better. Which is why we are buying a rambling dark gothic one with cellars and attics and outbuildings (and endless projects). But I like that, its really well balanced.

Is that a good thing, or is that a bad thing?

Isn't it just a bullnose?

I'm now confused.

Is the quadrant aspect supposed to be positive or a negative here?

It's both!

The point is, it is perfectly OK to pick up on small details

I think the kitchen is truly and utterly ghastly and would probably turn everything mouldy or sour by the power of its awfulness.

To be fair, they did match it to the wardrobes.

My mother would have described kitchen and wardrobes as 'frou-frou'.

The whole place does nothing for me, it all just looks a bit 'like we think a Scottish castle should look' circa Hollywood 1985.

The panelled snooker room is quite smart (although shouldn't it be a billiards table to stay in period?)

My mind must just be wired differently. If I'm buying an 8 million quid castle, and had the associated wealth that goes with it, skirting quadrant wouldn't register with me neither would the kitchen. I mean, it's not my taste either, but I know I'd be replacing it, so - *shrug*

As for passing harsh judgement - taste is personal and subjective.

Thankfully you have made the same point on this thread about 8 million times...
Thread would be very boring if we had to ignore interior decor or indeed anything that could be changed within the relevant budget.
