Apologies for yet another CCTV thread, the tech, offers on it and options seem to change weekly and I am finding it a bit of a minefield.

Essentially looking for 3/4 cameras externally and to future proof, looking at 4K cameras only, ruling out 1080p cameras.

Arlo seemed good from quick review but I feel with them and with Ring I’m maybe paying for name?

Hikvision are so widely discussed but you see huge praise and also comments if cheap rubbish and I’m unsure which to believe!

I’ve always thought wired to save me finding a three part ladder and changing batteries regularly etc.

I have electrical support to install if needed. Ideally would like connection to App and ability to add further cameras once I realise I don’t have enough!

Apologies once again for yet another thread but the others I’ve read don’t seem to provide the answers necessarily!

Following with interest. Our new estate which has some nice metal on the driveway is currently being targeted. Sleep much easier knowing at least I can capture these guys on tape if they do try anything

Quality does certainly look good there, be interesting to see if they are the go to recommendation as I expect they may be

Quite expensive IMO. You can get a Reolink 4k UHD system for half that price from Amazon. Special offer on the Reolink RLK8-800B4 for £399.99 at the moment. I've just installed one with 8 POE ports and wired cameras but it also works with their Wi-Fi IP Cameras, which I've been using for a while. Excellent imagery when hooked up to a 4k TV, easily the same quality as the images earlier in this thread. Reolink get quite a few good reviews from members on here so definitely worth looking at, particularly at that price.

Are there any issues with pointing a camera down the side of your house where a unadopted road leads to 4 houses.

There's one chap who I'm worried will see this as me tracking those coming in an out of the road. Whereas I want a camera there in the event of a break in to my garden. I want to see those approaching my back gate which is on the side of the house with this small access road?

Do people use a POE switch and a NAS, or easier and better to go with the manufacturers dedicated NVR?

Don’t get hung up on 4K. Usually more pixels = smaller pixels.... = less good night vision.

1080p is perfectly fine for cctv in most cases.

As above I like reolink , great no nonsense systems that work ace , lots of good guides by them on their websites .beware lots of the generic Chinese Hiki clones are a pain to work with at times with their pigeon English

As for the poster above I’d always go with a dedicated NVR , i used NAS drives and cctv for years and it was ok , but a NVR is much better and easier as it’s the tool designed for the job , a NAS is the jack of all trades , master of none

I also agree with poster above , don’t just chase 4K for the sake of it the resolution is only one aspect of a CCTV camera , lower res cameras can be better overall at the same price point . Imagine a car with a powerful engine with a st Chasis
