Fitted Air conditioning

We have had a/c installed by a company we found through "Rated People". Decent reviews but turned out to be just a little more "cowboy" than I would have liked. Anyway long story short, the installation took place during January. Other than a demo of how to use it we didn't need the cooling until about the start of May. Turn it on and no cold air. Typical. And now we can't get hold of them. I took the cover off the outside unit to find this:
Any a/c engineers able to say that's the tell tale signs of the refrigerant leaking out? If so how much would I be looking at to get a re-gas and can any a/c company do it?
Finally got hold of the installer who came back and regassed the system. Claimed the unit had been knocked which caused the refrigerant to leak out but refilled and didn't charge.....Any a/c engineers able to say that's the tell tale signs of the refrigerant leaking out? First really hot night sleeping with working bedroom a/c. So nice.

Could be using the Tuya back end, I’ve come across a couple of devices where they’ve taken the Tuya app and reskinned it with their logos etc. If you think about it it makes sense for smaller companies, why develop an app and maintain servers etc when you can license an established reliable platform.
The Fujitsu and Daikin apps I was looking at got poor reviews, and cost extra to boot.
This was standard with the kit. App is called Smart Life. The Fujitsu and Daikin apps I was looking at got poor reviews, and cost extra to boot.
DIY split unit installed in the attic today. DIY job, so clearly I am going to die for daring to avoid the R32 industry tax.
Next job is to take power to the outside unit to avoid unsightly cables in the room.
Took my attic from an ugly 32C to a civilised 20C in very little time. Better still, leaving the room door open and turning on turbo mode meant a wash of cool air tricking down the stairs and cooling the first floor landing.
Cost of installation was a day off work.

Tuya app runs all my TCL and ElectriQ units very nicely, with Alexa voice control, to agree with some of the former posts.
Only issues with the cheap units I have bought so far is that their temp sensing can be a bit off...they can overcool a room and temp on the remote/app needs to be set a couple of degrees above where you actually want it...

You’re a bad man! Next job is to take power to the outside unit to avoid unsightly cables in the room.

Is this app compatible with other a/c brands?
You can make anything that is controlled by IR or RF controllable by the Tuya app by getting an IR or RF blaster which can learn the commands from your remote and send them when you press the button in the app. There's one example linked above but there's lots on Amazon.
Some brands, like Harry's, have a wifi module built in that integrates with the app with no need for any additional hardware. The big brands like Fujitsu and Daikin have a wifi option, which is expensive, and their own app, which doesn't work very well.
I had an ElectriQ (TCL are identical, so are most of the random badge brands) and it was fine - eventually I changed to a Mitsubishi split, and then to a Mitsubishi multi split (I get them very cheap, and I am also a Mitsubishi air con fan boy) and there was no real difference in performance. I actually installed the old ElectriQ in my mum's house and it still works to this day.
It was made before the wifi apps became standard but she's an old bird so prefers a normal remote anyway, because it's something else to lose and oldies love losing stuff and claiming "It's vanished!".
Did you upsize your BTUs, Alucidation? I know two people who have put 12k BTU units in south facing bedrooms with loads of glass and they struggle a bit - I would always spec an 18k unit for that.

That seems to be the case with mine. Only issues with the cheap units I have bought so far is that their temp sensing can be a bit off...they can overcool a room and temp on the remote/app needs to be set a couple of degrees above where you actually want it...
22/23 degrees on the unit seems to be ideal for us but I'm sure the actual temp of the room is more like 20/21.

I'm pretty sure the manual says to set the required temperature 1-2 C above the desired room temperature.
