We are in the process of installing a new kitchen and whilst I am leaving Mrs M to go through the design (my comments are obstructive and not welcome), I have decided to source appliances rather than accept what the kitchen company are suggesting and include their own mark up.

We currently have an integrated fridge freezer (John Lewis own brand - wouldn't recommend another one), but am needing a seperate Fridge and Freezer. Also 2x ovens.... Gotto have a proving function and not too bothered with self cleaning. Prob going to go for the slide n hide. As well as that, there is a dishwasher to source as well.

All of the above vary considerably in price and if money were no object, I'd just get Miele and be done. However, the money tree is not growing round here so have to be more thoughtful in my choice. I've had a look online and other than wanting a quiet dishwasher (it is a kitchen diner where we spend most of our time), I am not too bothered - best value rather than cheapest is where I am trying to land.

Dishwasher - they vary from Hoover HD1 ILO388A (£259 - cheap) to Whirlpool WI030430DLS (£551 - only 43Db) to Miele G7150 (£1,149 - quality)
I'm not looking for a 'replace when broken' type as that is just going to cause grief - so anyone have any experience on what to get?

Same applies for Fridge and Freezer - noise not SO much of an issue, but do not want one that is noisy.
Obviously there are comparisons and 'best fridge 2020' over the net, but I have little faith in these reviews,

Might as well throw in that we need to sort out extraction for a 75cm gas hob as well - this I most definitely will be looking for a quiet version as the canopy one that we have at the moment does my nut in!

Already eliminating kettle noise by going for a boiling tap!

We have a Neff dishwasher, nice and quiet, has a fancy light on the floor to show time remaining, we like it.

I wrote down 5 dishwashers after having searched online and the NEFF S511A50XIG was highly rated on John Lewis and at the more affordable end (£399).

Thanks!!

Never had an issue with our smeg dishwasher was a real cheap one at the time 250ish Howdens lemona 50/50 ff is brilliant paid a bit extra for the frost free but definitely worth a bit extra if needs be, we do have a top spec hotpoint Luce self cleaning oven, not for the money it’s good and all but looking back I don’t see the premium over a mid range (it’s on a 10mm cable and trips the electric when heating up to self clean) maybe not a fault but everything is fine with the electric.

We have the equivalent Bosch (assume mainly same bits), super quiet, don’t know it’s on half the time. The floor projection showing status and time really handy. Also connects to Alexa which we obviously use daily never

Be careful with that one if noise is a concern - it is rated at 52dB(A) which I think is amongst the highest I've seen. Many/most are at the lower-mid 40s with some 'super quiet' ones going <40.

On the subject of noise, many manufacturers will talk at length about how quiet their motors are and yet conveniently leave out the main cause of noise - poor cavity design/construction and soundproofing.

We're on the look out for one for our new kitchen (in an open-plan kitchen-diner-lounge) and are currently eyeing up the Beko DIN28R22 or DIN29X20 at £349 and £380 respectively. A++ energy rating, 43dB(A) and 44dB(A) noise rating and seem to get good reviews. It's only brand snobbery that's make us hesitant but I think we need to get over that given what poor quality many of the mainstream brands are churning out (eg Bosch's use of plastic-bottomed cavities on all but the highest models now which seem very prone to leaking).

I haven't measured how loud it is but when we had our kitchen done late 2018 we had AEG put in across the board. I can't fault any of the appliances we have (DW, oven, induction hob and extractor).

The DW is certainly not noticeably loud but I guess that is a relative term really.

Seems like good quality kit though. smile

Have you considered the Miele Outlet? Lots of seconds appliances which are quite heavily discounted, many of which have been returned from dealers because of damaged packaging packaging / small marks to the products which are invisible once installed.

There is a stock list on the Miele Outlet website which is updated every couple of days.

This sort of discussion will likely go round in circles with some people saying their £100 unbranded appliances have been faultless for 30 yrs and others complaining that their jewel encrusted Miele or even more show off-y sub zero nonsense ‘aren’t built like they used to be’

The only thing I would say is consider buying the appliances the kitchen supplier, as if you have any problems within the guarantee period, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to ask the kitchen company to sort it, or at least provide assistance - removal of built in appliances etc...

There is a point to this, after yrs of trying to save a few bob, I now ask installer to supply. It stops all the "he said, she said" teeth sucking.

For my money if refrigeration isn't on show I buy the cheap stuff on the KISS principle. I like bosch for dishwashers though.

We've currently got a Whirlpool WIO 3T123 which looks almost identical to the one you've mentioned other than being a worse enegry rating, and to be honest I can't recommend it. We bought it about 3 years ago to replace an ~8 year old Indesit which did a decent job, Indesit and Whirlpool are the same parent company and most of their integrated dishwashers use the same dishwasher body/door so I didn't have to worry about fitment or faff around refitting the door front etc and thought being fundamentally the same-but-improved-on design it would perform well. However, although the Whirlpool has more features /programs and is quieter, it doesn't wash as well as the old Indesit did. We have to rinse off plates etc to get them reliably clean on the "6th Sense" primary adaptive program and the contents don't dry very well after the wash finishes.

We're in the process of moving and I've started having a look at new kitchens which will be one of the first jobs to do, the wife wants to go Bosch for the cooking items as she likes the combi microwave we've currently got. I'm not so keen though as the microwave has a stupid feature that wastes a lot of electricity in that when you microwave something on the top two power settings, it automatically turns the grill on to burn off any steam created, but that means every time you microwave something you're pulling about 4kw of electricity combining the ~1kw microwaving and ~3kw grill. Also it means you need to be very careful taking bowls etc in and out, I've branded the back of my hand a few times stirring porridge or a ready meal mid cook when forgetting to take the bowl out to stir not ideal.

There seems to little correlation in price that relates to performance and reliability. They all either cool, heat or wash. More expensive items have more functions, better aesthetics, but more fickle and complex.

I pay extra for auto defrost, pyrolytic and aesthetics but that's about it. Any appliance that requires me to refer to a manual is a fail in my book.

Just had our kitchen done, the kitchen supplier (local store) gave us a quote for supplying all the fitted appliances we'd chosen (all NEFF) at way better pricing than i could find on-line anywhere. Oh, and the Dishwasher was free! Don't dismiss the kitchen supplier out of hand assuming they will charge you more, you might be surprised. Another bonus is that the supplier matched all the appliances to the cabinets too so no nasty surprises when I came to fit them. All the appliances are really quiet too with the exception of the hob extractor, which is very effective, nothing escapes it, but very noisy on max speed. I guess if it's quiet it won't shift the steam and smoke.

Good to know.
I'm not dismissing it, but my ehinking is if I pick items that will fit (no irregular sizes in the kitchen), then I can compare to what they suggest.
If there is little difference in price / quality then I will leave it with them to source and install. But I need to know what the sum is for items that I would consider 'best for purpose'.

Been a few years since we did our kitchen, but found that Bosch kit was often the quietest available - which when you have an open plan space it’s a major consideration.

Dishwasher and extractor hood were the quietest available - even over Miele. No issues with build quality yet, so would buy again.

Yes it can be a nightmare... we are designing our kitchen which is open plan as well. In the end due to noise I just put the fridge freezer, dishwasher in the utility. Freed up more space and it will be quieter at the price of some convenience.

I do a lot of houses.

For me neff if you can’t see it. Miele if you can. Miele have a factory outlet.

Washing machines are all Indesit
