Energy price rises - what are you paying?

You really do. What you've put is just total nonsense.
By law it has to be provided in pence per kwh and a daily standing charge fee. You'll find that information clearly on any bill, or on any website, and it has to be provided before you sign up.
However, ask most people how many Kwh's of electric they use in a year and they wouldn't have a clue. Ask someone how big their house is and how much their bill is every month and most people will have a decent stab at a good answer. Don't blame the energy companies if their customers can't be arsed to find out all the information they need to get the most accurate quote. There are heaps of customers still on very expensive default tariffs as opposed to being on a fixed contract, but you can't force them to change.
You can’t tell me I’m talking nonsense and then write out a whole paragraph that goes on to support my point (that most people don’t have a clue why their bill is what it is). I wasn’t suggesting that the energy companies are being unlawful, I’m merely saying that they tuck their KwH rates nicely into the small print, instead listing the pointless, easily-read estimated figures (in the big bold lettering) as the “prices”.
My point was that, in my opinion, energy rates should be advertised in the same way as most other products are.
Just like cost per minutes/texts on a phone contract, or cost per litres on fuel. Energy should be advertised in the same way. Technically it is, but it’s not advertised this way on TV, not clearly anyway.

This, but also look at some posting here with I pay £x per month which is utterly useless
Indeed. They have become used to that way of billing; having no idea why their bill is X, just that it is X.Condi said:
That's not that great.
I agree, Bulb are (no longer) competitiveI was with them but they were absolutely dreadful: following an E7 meter install , they failed to issue a correct bill. amongst other things it was impossible to submit a meter reading since the billing was stuck on single rate. Then they could not even get the rates correct and then swapped the day and night rate. Every few months I would contact them to do battle again and make no progress. In the end I contacted the CEO who passed it to "Head of complaints" aka the tea boy. They have no case tracking or monitoring systems (that work)
"I will stick to the facts:
on 10th August you said "you should receive an updated consolidated statement later today" - No statement received
and "Your next statement which is due on the 13th of August" - No statement again
"Can you take a look over the bill and let me know if anything seems incorrect or if it needs further explanation?" - there were no bills received
On 3rd September I received a statement where the day and night readings have been flipped and back billing limit has been ignored"
Still with the back billing limitation and compensation it was cheap!

Looking at some of the unit per kWh rates here I am wondering if I am reading the correct rates from my (ex) supplier.
£0.1324 per kWh for electricity and £0.0211 per kWh for gas sounds too low.
That sounds like very good last year prices, probably reverted to a standard tariff. But if you aren't please let me know as best I can find is 3.015 pkWh Gas and 15.5pkWh Electric£0.1324 per kWh for electricity and £0.0211 per kWh for gas sounds too low.

Bulb account here. Everything in my place is electric. Heating, HWS and induction hob. No natural gas. Quite surprised my rate is cheaper than others on here. I guess postcode lottery?.
Put in a Bedforshire postcode for Octopus Go:Off-peak unit rate (00:30-04:30):
5.00 p / kWh
Peak unit rate (04:30-00:30):
14.12 p / kWh
Standing Charge:
25.00 p / day

Looking at other rates here mine is suspiciously cheap.

Maybe that is why they went bust?
But seriously, the rates from EDF are (according to Martin money saving expert man) very good.
Shame though, pretty good rates for what I am using. But seriously, the rates from EDF are (according to Martin money saving expert man) very good.
Waiting with bated breath for EDF rates... still no news and it's almost 2 months now since I've got the email.

Right so the plan was to sign up with Octopus tomorrow for gas and electric.
There's no electric car or secret cannabis farm using lots of kWh in the dead of the night.
Would people go on a fixed or flexible Octopus tarrif initially?
I'm a little confused how it works going from their estimate on the website to getting actual realistic bills.

I igniore all estimations and just go on an average of meter readings over the last year. There's no electric car or secret cannabis farm using lots of kWh in the dead of the night.
