Never bothered selling my old phones before - but after recent upgrade realised they were offering £150 for my old handset which was in perfect condition.

Sent off via DPD jn seemingly armoured crate - yet the technician has 'found' "black marks across screen especially when white background - new screen needed".

Revised offer of £35...

Now, I am absolutely bloody certain there was zero problem when I sent it - if they're being hugely fussy about something unnoticeable by me fair enough, but what's the likelihood when the handset is returned there'll now be something on the screen that wasn't there before?

Anyone else had anything like this? Do they usually play with a straight bat?

You take any pics/videos of it before you sent it?

Is this a company rather than a individual?

A lot of them are like wbac and will never pay the offered price..

Did you keep a note of the IMEI number? Might be useful to check if you actually get the original phone back!

Company - the WBAC reference is what I was thinking...

Kept a note of the IMEI. If it is returned with damaged screen, there's nothing I can do (cause as per earlier post, idiot) - but it'll reinforce my prior philosophy of throwing the old handsets in a drawer "just in case" then finally throwing them out after I've forgotten about it for nearly a decade.

I always sell mine via Gumtree, cash on collection. Yes you have to deal with idiots but have sold 3 phones over the last year without issues.

If it's a company then most of the time they will return it for a nominal P&P charge, no?

Pretty sure it's a free return (as was collection).

Not fussed about that side of things.

Then ask for it back. You should be able to find the IMEI on a contract or invoice email from when you bought it, even if you didn't take a note of it before you sent it off.

This is how these companies work, tempting people with unrealistic unfulfilled offers.
If you are lucky you will get your same phone back.
If you are not, they will undelete the memory and take a copy, extract working components and send you back a pile of st.

"Retentions team" messaged to send this:

So original offer - £155
"Technician assessed" offer - £35
"Reviewed" offer - £65 + "£30 accessories pack".

Tossers. Bet most people just click accept to be done with it. Phone was absolutely perfect.

O2 did this to me so I got it back and threw it in a drawer. I ended up giving it to my nephew, he was chuffed.

I was worried when i PXd to samsung, but the process was flawless. My phone was too apart from the battery was crap, i took lots of photos for added security.

My brother had an ipad rejected, apparently it was bent! its invisible to the naked eye but when we put a spirit level on it there was a slight bend. Accepted in CEX without comment.

Most of these companies seem to be excessively fussy and must make their money by people accepting the lower amounts.

They barely exist now. Try looking them up in your area.

+1

Have sold my previous iPhones and Apple Watches, etc on Gumtree. Zero hassle sales.

I've had this with one of the phone buying companies before.

Guaranteed offer of £150+ suddenly ends up at £30 for some BS reason. Decline and ask for it back and it goes up. I kept declining sayiing I wanted it back and eventually as a "one time only goodwill gesture" I magically got my £150 - probably because they're already processed it.
