Looks a decent start perhaps needs a couple of additional piers? One in the back wall and I’d probably have built the pedestrian door opening with them as you have the main door… single skin will be fine when rendered and painted mine has been fine no damp at all

Single skin?? That’ll get very damp I’d have thought.
Why?
My garage is single skin brick with block pillars. Nothing has gone rusty in there in the 24 years since it was built.

We have a single skin 'small.double' 70s garage. Brick and pebble dash, insulated flat torched felt roof. Dry as a dry thing.

Before that I had a tin garage with no dwarf wall and a slab that was lower in the middle. So I know all about damp!

Can you get a car down that side access? (Looking at the photos later).

(I feel your pain on ever growing lists of jobs smile).

Our first isnt' due till end of Jan. but even without the child I feel the pain!

The rendering will keep the rain off the outside of the blockwork, but as you say, once the roof is on you have an increasingly usable space right away and then you can get it secure with windows and doors.

Good effort, you must be proud of what you have achieved.

Make sure the concrete below the door slopes outwards, else any rain hitting the door will run in!

Did you have Building Control for this?

Your joists look a bit on the skinny side - what dimensions and what timber have you used for those? Plus no noggins? It's going to be a bit springy.

The end bearing on your large opening lintel looks a bit under sized as well - plus what is it sitting on, a concrete block? Usually you would put engineering bricks or spreader plate on there. Although I guess the joists aren't bearing on to that, so there's not a lot of load there.

Snow loading calcs aside.... you can always add noggins. But yes, I guess its a reasonable span.

It is literally pretty much only holding itself up, surely it will be fine!

I love the before during and after of these type of builds. Well done you for getting into it.

You might want to add, if you haven't already or thought of it, a path. As walking across wet grass to get from the house to garage gets a bit tedious.

It is far more substantially built than anything I have built, and they are all still standing after many years. We do tend to over engineer our builds in this country I reckon.
