Personally, i leave bad reviews all the time. Any restaurant, tradesmen, garages etc etc that the service has fallen short or wanting - i leave an honest version of my experience. That said, i also leave dozens of truly glowing reviews
Wish everyone did this! Everyone would benefit. A lot of the one star ones are as mental as the 5 star ones which are usually bought or gifted by mates.
A three star review that just says the person did what they were paid to do and wasn't a shower of st is often the most useful as we're all happy to compromise and most of the time just want the job done to a basic standard.

Yup. Or just leave honest reviews whether good, bad or indifferent. Often the three star reviews are the only ones that give a true picture.

Yes I generally disregard the 1 and 5 star reviews and read the others which are usually more informativeA lot of the one star ones are as mental as the 5 star ones which are usually bought or gifted by mates.

Takes balls to write a negative review, in my opinion there is one big factor I would personally avoid writing a negative comment or review on tradesmen/builders and that is they know where you live and you don't know where they live. If you have a house, car or family and you want to be safe you have to make your choice.

I’m sorry, what?I can’t tell if your joking or not. Are tradesmen exempt from the law? Family safe? Is this a script for a new Taken film or something.
Absolutely absurd.

I see where you're coming from but I used trade from home and over the years I've told a fair few dheads, thieves etc to go fk themselves, I traded online, my phone number was in every post I made on the forum and I don't tend to tow the lineDo you know how much retribution I've faced, down to prank calls in 20+ years ?
None
(Yes I was surprised too)
I wouldn't hesitate to leave a negative review as long as it was true

Absolutely true from my experience, if you check back the last few pages some have had death threats made to them and their family but as I say choice is yours you just have to remember there are always consequences to anything in life. Your circumstances may differ greatly you maybe young, strong and able to handle the heat vs a retired disabled pensioner living at home alone.I can’t tell if your joking or not. Ok well you are lucky to not have any come backs others on this thread had death threats, props to standing up to the bad tradesmen/builders but I am guessing you are a younger man in his prime of 20s, 30s Do you know how much retribution I've faced, down to prank calls in 20+ years ?

Things may look and sound a bit different if you are in your 50s, 60s and you have vulnerable people at home.

Why do business with someone who you can't find out their address?
Many businesses have a registered office/mailbox as their published address. Under promise.
Over deliver.
Always communicate well.
Self employed since 2002 and not a single bad review, the above has stood me well!
It isnt rocket science but amazing how many get it so so wrong.
Your review was justified, we have had such a rotten time with terrible tradesmen. If they cannot be bothered to turn up and communicate well just for the qoute you have dodged a massive bullet letting them work on your house. He has done you a favour.

You seem to have taken ‘many’ as ‘all’ and then go on to confirm their point!
My experiences recently have been exactly the same, I’ve been trying to get someone to build an extension. Everything’s sorting my end, planning/calcs etc, funds in place, I’m ready to go. Can I get a quote? Nope!
Same here, been touting project managers, quantity surveyors etc. .My experiences recently have been exactly the same, I’ve been trying to get someone to build an extension. Everything’s sorting my end, planning/calcs etc, funds in place, I’m ready to go. Can I get a quote? Nope!
only last week, being told by the latter to leave it for twelve months, other wise to pay way over the top.
Presently have issue at a block of rental flats with door entry system, three engineers visited, one fitting a new speaker unit, all did not return for a second visit.
I am on holiday at my holiday home on the Devon-Cornwall border, coincidently had two call outs at rental properties for faulty ballvalves, one external and one internal overflow. It was more practical for me to make the 220 miles return journey to carry out the repairs, firstly knowing what the faults were, the repairs were completed satisfactory, and that i wasn't being ripped off.
It seems since covid-19, contractors now no longer want to offer quotes, wanting to do the lease amount of work for the maximum amount of payment.
