When you get fed up with it or it breaks down get a Miele C3.

Had a pair of gtec upright and handheld vac for about 8 years. Always thought they were fairly good.

Then a friend of the wife suggested the shark.

Miles better.

Miele.

Always the best answer for what oven/fridge/washing machine/tumble dryer.

I have a Miele C3.

Have a read of the Vacuum Cleaners subreddit. They have several 'insiders' who sell, manufacture, repair etc.

The gist is buy Miele/Sebo. Avoid anything cordless, bagless and avoid Shark at all costs.
I hadn’t realised but it turns out I’m a bit of vacuum tart.

When we were poor and had flat cheap carpets with barely any pile a Henry was good enough. We then got decent carpets followed by dogs so the Henry was about as much use as a poke in the eye, enter a Dyson DC14 Animal - massive step up, it has been reliable and in 15 years has had a couple of sole plates, a few hepa filters and a new hose.

A move to a much bigger 4 bed detached saw it get plenty of use, carrying it up and down the stairs was a ball ache, we were donated a Miele S7210 by the mother in law as she struggled to shove the heavy thing about. Dyson stayed upstairs, Miele downstairs - job jobbed!

Good vacuum but not that much better than the Dyson in terms of performance, add to that the cost of bags and filters and I’d be hard pushed to recommend one. The hose failed at the wand putting it beyond economical repair - a genuine hose was an absurd £112 odd

Nothing came up on eBay so off to the tip it went and the Dyson carried on its stoic work.

A move to a new house with very deep pile carpets upstairs and hard flooring downstairs saw the Dyson struggling, it would do a near headstand on the deep carpet and was a bloody nuisance fetching up and down the stairs.

Nothing for it but to get another pair of vacuums - we went for a Sebo X7 pet for the carpeted areas upstairs and a Shark IF200 for the hard floors downstairs.

The Sebo is superb, bagged machine so that needs considering but the automatic brush height adjustment is streets ahead of the Dyson and Miele, visibly cleaner carpets and not too heavy to shove about.

The accessories included a hose extension and turbine head meaning the stairs are a doddle to clean as well. Very pleased with it.

The shark is great on the hard floors, ok for light use on mats etc. less useful as a handheld and truth be told it comes with far too many useless accessories.

Our old Henry is now in my workshop at work, the Dyson is in the garage and does a great job on the cars when I have a rare moment to go through them properly.

We also have a Dyson DC30 that we keep on our boat - that’s had one new battery in 10 years and is ideal for the limited use it gets onboard.

I never thought I’d have been through 6 vacuums in 23 years and still own 5 of them!

The bin also holds about 3 thimbles worth of fluff and dirt.
I will concede that this is also my main/only gripe with the Shark. We have a three-storey house and it needs emptying after each floor usually.

I live in a 5-bed, normal 2-storey house. Needs emptying after two whole cleans - you must have a lot of family/activity in your house!

We’ve a Henry (basic, very efficient, a bit clumsy but cheap) and a Dyson (expensive, fragile, badly made and largely ineffective). We’ll be ditching it for a Shark and keeping the old Henry for garage/workshop duties.

Blankly blank.

Very impressed with Shark.

Only issue is attachment with brush drop down and doesn't hold in place. The container is small but enough for a trip round house and car. i like on solid and everything clunks into place so easy to use.

I'm sensing they bought an actual shark. An odd purchase but there you go.

I still think the Sebo Felix is the absolute premier versatile upright corded cleaner. This professional house cleaner has used both, see what he has to say:

I've owned a Felix and it was a brilliant vacuum, but I wouldn't recommend for cleaning cars, as the hose comes out of the top of the upright's body, so you have to take measures to stop it being pulled against the car when you use it.

I am a big SEBO fan and now have an X7 (bigger heavier SEBO) but I have a Miele C3 for car vacuuming.

I've got a shark and love it. Watch out for the bottom hose splitting though as it is a common problem but quite an easy fix. Also, invest in a spare filter set as it makes a massive difference even if you do regularly wash them out.

I take it we are talking about the mains operated variants here?

I need to replace a 15 year old Dyson upright very soon and want to go cordless. Was looking at the V10 but always find something more interesting to spend my money on!
